Shamil Wamala (born 3 December 1996), also known as Shamil Cruz Updates, is a Ugandan social media personality, blogger, and content creator. He is known for his short video posts and internet commercials on the internet.

Early life

Wamala was raised in Katale, Seguku, in Wakiso District, Uganda. In interviews he credited both parents for a supportive upbringing and said he left home at 18 to pursue independent work.[1]

Career

Wamala began posting consistently on TikTok around 2023. Ugandan newspapers reported steady audience growth to more than 2.6 million followers and over 75 million likes by August 2025, with analytics later showing approximately 2.7 million followers and 79 million likes.[2][1][3]

His content includes music promotions, brand endorsements, and entertainment news and campaigns like for Jollo Quality Properties, Nova Skin Care Products, and Century Properties.[1][3] In 2025, several outlets reported that Wamala was working as online media personnel with the Office of the National Chairman in Kyambogo, led by Hadijah Namyalo, and that he intended to cover the 2026 Uganda general elections on his platforms.[1][3]
