  • Lana Del Rey will record the new James Bond theme song for the video game 007: First Light.
  • The game chronicles the exploits of a 26-year-old Bond, played by Patrick Gibson in the third-person adventure game.
  • Del Rey follows in the footsteps of Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Adele, and Madonna in recording a Bond theme.

Lana Del Rey is the recording artist behind the next James Bond theme song. It's just not for a new movie.

The "Video Games" songstress enters the video game business as the official singer behind the title song for 007: First Light, the sprawling third-person action-adventure game from IO Interactive, the award-winning developer and publisher behind the Hitman franchise. The piece is available to listen to now.

Del Rey composed the new Bond theme song with David Arnold, who previously worked on Bond films Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002), Casino Royale (2006), and Quantum of Solace (2008). Arnold also provided main theme music for GoldenEye 007, the 2010 remake of the classic N64 game.

“The music of James Bond has always been a huge part of its identity," Arnold said in a statement. "A title song has to tell us about the world we are about to enter into. It has to intrigue, excite, and beckon us in. This song joins a long line of genre defining songs, each one creating a benchmark of style that adds to the magnificent heritage that is ‘The Bond Song’. That’s why I was so excited to work with Lana, an artist who brought elegance, atmosphere, and her totally unique character to this piece, which I hope will open the world of Bond to a whole new audience."

The official title sequence with the new song will arrive Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m. BST / 12 p.m. PST on 007 First Light’s official channels on Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Steam, and X.

It's another sign that IO Interactive is aiming for a cinematic experience for First Light, which stars Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) as a younger international man of mystery.

Del Rey, who will deliver new studio album Stove this year, follows in the grand tradition of starry Bond vocalists lending their pipes to the franchise, including Billie Eilish on No Time to Die (2021), Sam Smith on Spectre (2015), and Adele on Skyfall (2012).

"It’s a joy to watch two extraordinary talents like Lana Del Rey and David Arnold combine forces, the result feels instantly ‘Bond’ while still bringing a fresh identity for 007: First Light," Hakan Abrak, CEO at IO Interactive, said in a statement. "Bond’s return to gaming is a landmark moment for us at IO Interactive, and having a title song of this quality makes it even more special."

Since Daniel Craig hung up his revolver and martini glass on the big screen, the new gatekeepers of the franchise at Amazon MGM Studios announced Dune director Denis Villeneuve will make a new film, with Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame writing. But that project is farther off. 007: First Light will be the first new Bond story since No Time to Die.

Scheduled for release on consoles May 27, the game follows a 26-year-old Bond as a promising but rebellious Royal Navy air crewman who's recruited into MI6.
