The 33 rays, outlining the map of Makati, stand for the barangays, surging forward to a brighter future. The golden yellow color represents wealth and prosperity. The buildings in green symbolizing life, reflect the new progressive Makati. The church represents the historic Nuestra Señora de Gracia popularly known as the Guadalupe Ruins, Makati’s oldest church, used as a fortress by Filipinos against the Spaniards in 1896 and against the Americans in 1898. The waves represent the ebbing tide from which the town got its name as the phrase "Makati na, Kumakati na" meaning ebbing tide. |
