Makati to work with DOTr to improve mass transportation systems
Makati Mayor Nancy Binay has announced plans to partner with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to improve mass transportation systems in the city.
The announcement came during a courtesy visit by DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon to Makati City Hall, where both officials discussed collaborative opportunities to address the city's transportation challenges.
"Makati is exploring how to support the DOTr's initiatives, including the Metro Manila Subway project construction, improvements to the Pasig River ferry system, and rehabilitation of Makati's Philippine National Railway stations," Binay said.
The partnership aims to improve traffic flow to and from Makati while making transportation more convenient for the public. With the city's daytime population swelling to 3.2-4.2 million people due to its central business district, efficient transportation has become critical.
"Because of people working in the central business district, Makati's daytime population balloons to 3.2-4.2 million people. We need to find the best way to transport these people," Binay explained.
The meeting included key officials from both agencies: City Public Safety Officer P/BGen. Rodelio Jocson, DOTr Under Secretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, City General Services Department Officer-in-Charge Carleen Yap-Villa, and City Engineer William Hong.
"Makati is serious in its commitment to provide the best transport systems to the people. We look forward to working with the DOTr in this endeavor," Binay concluded.
