I know this is a well intended workshop for government workers and policy makers, but this sounds so incredibly out of touch.

@ric me too! Wish I could visit it, as again, I'm sure it's made with the best intentions.
The Dutch game experience should at least include constantly opening an empty fridge, stumbling over piles of indecipherable letters from the tax authorities and getting threatening phone calls from the social benefits agency.
@Gina in the UK, the unemployed are entitled to a pathetically low amount of benefits, but they have to turn up to their appointments and to x job interviews per week etc else the payments stop. So people have to choose between spending their last few coins on bus fares instead of eating, or losing their income entirely. I bet that's not included in the simulation.
Then there's the late payment fines if you can't afford your credit card bills. So you take out another credit card to pay those.
@Gina Probably the best way they could simulate poverty, would be if they walk you into the room, give you the headset, and then just punch you in the face repeatedly while you try to turn it on until you admit that you're the problem and should have been smart enough to just not enter the room at all.
@ric jup, same here. Being poor is time consuming, ridiculous, inconvenient, scary and dehumanizing.
@Gina It sounds brutal and offensive. It seems that for some people, other people's lives are pure fiction. And that's because politicians live in a bubble and don't care about the people. To them, we're just cattle.

I highly recommend volunteering at a foodbank. I did it for years and I'm still mildly traumatized.
Yeah just go talk to real people out there instead of a stupid VR simulation, when you are poor and financially struggling the mental stress alone becomes a big factor.
