  • Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned that Sydney Sweeney's cameo was cut from The Devil Wears Prada 2.
  • A source explains what would've happened in a scene that the Euphoria actress filmed with the cast.
  • They say it was a "creative decision" to nix the scene, which also featured Emily Blunt.

Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney's cameo has been cut from The Devil Wears Prada 2's cinematic catwalk, Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned.

After the actress was photographed in mid-2025 while heading to the set of the highly anticipated sequel starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, speculation began that the star would make an appearance in the project.

Now, EW can reveal that the actress filmed a scene that would've appeared near the beginning of the film, though a source explains that it was a "creative decision" to nix the bit altogether.

Trailers for the film tease a plot point in which now-established journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) reunites with her former Runway colleagues, Miranda Priestly (Streep) and Nigel Kipling (Tucci), to save the fashion magazine from imploding amid a scandal and a volatile media landscape. While seeking funds to keep the brand running, they enlist the help of former Runway assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), who now works as the head of Dior's United States operation.

As it appears in the film, the trio arrives at the Dior offices to seek Emily's help. Initially, however, Sweeney appeared in a scene that expanded upon Emily's introduction, and saw her at work dressing a celebrity client, with Sweeney playing herself in the reported three-minute scene.

EW has learned that the scene did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence, and that the team working on the movie was grateful for her participation, making the decision to remove the bit a difficult one.

Representatives for Disney and Sweeney did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Also last year, Sweeney courted controversy by starring in an American Eagle jeans ad that proclaimed the actress had "great jeans," which some interpreted as a nod to eugenics. The actress eventually responded, telling EW's sister publication, PEOPLE: "I was honestly surprised by the reaction," she said. "I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don't support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren't true."

While Sweeney doesn't appear in the final cut of the film, she recently returned to the project that launched her to superstardom, as she appeared in the first two episodes of Euphoria's third season, which debuted earlier in April on HBO.

Of the cameos that do occur in Devil Wears Prada 2, EW previously learned that Lady Gaga makes an appearance in the film, while the pop star also recorded a Doechii-assisted soundtrack song, "Runway," for the movie's soundtrack.

In addition to the aforementioned cast, original stars Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles from the first Devil Wears Prada film, which opened in 2006, grossed $327 million globally, and earned two Oscar nominations the following year. Director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman all returned to work on the sequel.

New cast members for the sequel include Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Simone Ashley, Caleb Hearon, Patrick Brammall, Rachel Bloom, and Kenneth Branagh, among others.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in theaters May 1.

We all know why Sydney was cut and it wasn't over a creative decision. It was A political move. Don't kid yourself and believe the bs! Sydney can do much better. Their demons don't like the light in her. That's ok Sydney...when the dust settles we will all see who is standing in the end and it wont be other Actors pulling power plays behind the scenes. They sold their souls a long time ago.

Hollywood is driven by “Progressivism”, Progressivism is driven by ENVY and these people envy Ms. Sweeney’s good genes.

            Simple, really

Weird that so many people seem to dislike Sydney. She isn't nepo and got where she is through hard work. She uses her considerable celebrity to get small movies made and distributed. Any project she is in, she promotes it with gusto. She's never made any political statement (anyone who says anything about her political affiliation is just reporting rumors and innuendo)... to be honest, she should be considered a shining example of how everyone (not just women) in Hollywood should be.

Is the hate just because she's attractive and straight men like her? Is that it?

Hopefully we'll be seeing less and less of her from here on.

                    Explain precisely why

I agree with you, Tiny. She happens to also be one of the smartest campaigners for her adds, promoting self/body positivity, someone who enjoys working on her own vehicles, is well-versed in martial arts, and does a lot to help communities worldwide. On top of that, yes, extremists don't like her because she is beautiful inside and out and dedicates herself to her acting profession, more than many. I'm proud of her. I hope people wake up and put their priorities in order; she's an excellent celeb and actor, we're lucky to be sharing this time in the world with her... there is no need to be jealous or a mysogynist (female mysogyny is very active these days as well).

Hopefully this signals the beginning of the end of Sweeney's overexposure.
