Cinema chain operator Golden Harvest has announced shutting down all of its remaining theatres in Hong Kong by the end of the month.

The announcement on Friday marked the latest in a string of cinema closures in the city.

Golden Harvest shut down three other branches – in Whampoa, Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Bay – earlier this year.

Golden Harvest said it will soon cease movie operations when the leases expire for its four remaining theatres: the sky in Olympian City 2, StagE in Tuen Mun Town Plaza, GH Galaxy in Shau Kei Wan and GH Taipo.

"As our leases at these locations come to a close on June 29, 2025, we will be concluding our cinema operations in Hong Kong thereafter," it said on social media.

Three of the theatres will then be open for business under new ownership.

"We are pleased to share that we have been informed that the venues for the sky, StagE, and GH Taipo Cinemas will be leased to a new operator. The new operator will carry forward the tradition of exceptional service, ensuring that there is no disruption to the quality services to our valued cinema patrons have come to love," Golden Harvest said.

Cinema vouchers, coupons and movie tickets issued by Golden Harvest will be accepted at the three locations until the end of August.
