Play with battle style to set. Really changes the game difficulty. You shouldn't be able to switch mons freely.

I beat red with a mostly underdog team at late 50 levels. Set mode + no items in battle all game. All difficult pokemon battles need a little bit of luck too, however

I saved beforehand to see how my team mostly in the mid 40s would fare except for my quagsire who was 55 he had one shot red’s pikachu with that much of a massive level difference then the team only lost due to speed and not being able to take a hit
I beat red with mewtwo level 74 and t-tar level 64 and thats it, i had not other pokemons in my party and not a single potion was used. Ur team beats red easy.
