Justin Theroux is letting his freak flag fly in The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The actor, 54, teases his character in the sequel — which hits theaters on Friday, May 1 — calling him “such an idiot” while speaking with PEOPLE at the film’s April 20 New York City premiere.

“The most fun thing about playing him was how silly he was,” says Theroux of Benji Barnes, one of many characters introduced in the sequel's world of high fashion.

“He's such an idiot,” he continues. “To be able to be ridiculous, wear ridiculous clothes — I have a really ridiculous hair thing going on, I'm bald, but then it's like my hair's falling out — that was the most fun.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 reunites original castmates Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci with director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who 20 years ago adapted Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel. Theroux, Simone Ashley, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak and more are among the newcomers in the sequel.

It was the “funny” Blunt, 43, that proved Theroux’s highlight in filming the sequel, he says. “She's a riot. She cracks me up.”

Speaking to PEOPLE in December 2025, the star of The Leftovers shouted out working with Streep, 76, as a “thrilling” experience. Joking that the Oscar winner “was nervous to work with me,” he added, “It goes without saying she’s a professional, but after a few minutes of nerves, you immediately realize, ‘Oh, she’s just a really quality actress that I’m getting to work with.’”

Theroux was joined on the Devil Wears Prada 2 New York premiere red carpet by Nicole Brydon Bloom not long after the married couple welcomed their first child earlier this month.
