There's no incentive for writers to create a brand new character that Marvel owns, they are notoriously bad with credit/ royalties. So the most you'll get is a different coloured spiderman suit, they're still running on that reaction to image/ Mcfarlane, shying away from elevating talent imo.
No one was clamoring for a new firestorm book, but DC put proven talent on that book and gave them the licence to run wild. I'm not saying the new Firestorm miniseries is going to make him my new favorite character or anything, but it's exciting enough to get me to buy into a character I previously gave zero shits about
Hey, here’s the key point I’d throw at you. I do think the Perch has a solid point, but it’s not really that Cloak and Dagger need to be elevated. It’s the villains they’re up against that need elevating. We already know all about the Dooms and Magnetos of that world, but there are plenty of villains in the Marvel universe that can be straight-up terrifying without going full world-ending threat level. So crank up the threats around them, and I think you can elevate the heroes right along with it.
are new characters really thar bad of an idea? is marvel just a legacy act at this point? all the characters were new characters at some point, right? it doesnt have to be a character like "detective, but wears a hat". you dont have to throw away any characters just to make new ones. throw stuff against the wall and see what sticks. isnt that always how it was?
I really really tire of the “make new characters” arguments. It’s mentally akin to falling down a cliff and trying to grab on to a limb to hold on to life a few seconds before plummeting.
DUMMY!
Dc did this 10 years ago after metal with a whole line of books with new characters and concepts and you know what happened
NOBODY bought the phucking books you DOLT!
Stop it already! Stop. It! Spinner racks, selling books at gas stations, new characters, hiring old head past their prime writers and artists from the 70s and 80s and selling floppies at major retail s not going to save an industry.
What will? How about a better economy and books that dont cost 5 bucks … which is what a paperback novel cost back in 1998.
