They never did. Reports that group claiming to be associated with Anonymous hacked into a Fox News live feed have surfaced throughout the years but there is no factual evidence of this ever taking place. YouTube videos from 2013 and 2015 appear to be doctored. It's just one of those urban legends with no truth behind it (like how a person cast as a munchkin committed suicide on the set of Wizzard of Oz…).
Most of the people thought they were but they were not. Anonymous never officially claimed this attack. Plus you can see the voice in video, anonymous doesn't talk like that. Stream their videos on YouTube and you will know how they talk. They distort their voice to escape through tracking.

The most famous thing anonymous does is when the do DDOS. Which stands for Distributed Denial Of Service. When someone launches a DDOS attack it is usually to basically shut down a website. DDOS attacks are multiple people sending massive amounts of data to the web server controlling the website. Its like if you have 5 people trying to get on a train, and then 500,000 people who do not need to get on the train trying to get on the same train. They were around in the mid-late 90’s in the days of phreaking and the Beige Box [An entirely different story in and of themselves]. If you’re referring to the more politically-driven, anti-corruption Anonymous then that can be traced back to around 2008 with Project Chanology which was a coordinated attack on the Church of Scientology.
