About Import Fees

Customs duties, taxes and fees ("Import Fees") estimation during checkout and customs clearance on the recipient's behalf is offered for Amazon Global Store and some marketplace seller products for certain eligible countries and regions. The payment of Import Fees is the responsibility of the importer and is levied based on the laws of the country into which the products are being shipped.

When you order products (1) from Amazon Global Store for shipment to countries or regions outside of Japan, (2) from Amazon Global Store for shipment to Japan, or (3) from marketplace sellers storing those products in an Amazon Fulfilment Center in a customs-bonded free zone, an estimate of the Import Fees will be levied on those items in your order (“Import Charges”). With your authorization, these funds are used by the carrier or another agent to pay the Import Fees on your behalf (or the recipient's behalf) to the appropriate authorities of the destination country.

Calculating Import Fees

The amount of actual Import Fees charged by the customs authorities will vary depending on multiple factors. These include customs regulations in the given destination, the product category and price, and the shipping method selected. Typically, Import Fees are calculated based on the price of the product after any discounts and promotions are applied but including shipping costs. Carriers or agents use Import Charges to pay Import Fees on your behalf to the appropriate customs authorities.

Import Charges

Import Charges are a fixed amount for all customs-related processes and costs, including Import Fees paid to the customs authorities on your behalf. Import Charges may not represent the actual amount paid to the customs authorities. You will not be refunded if the Import Charges you paid to Amazon are more than the Import Fees paid on your behalf to the competent authorities, nor will you be charged any additional amount if the Import Charges you paid to Amazon are less than the Import Fees paid on your behalf to the competent authorities.
