Some folks live to be 114, but that's rare. It's also unlikely you'll die today, but it's possible. You can quit worrying about dying prior to today (if that thought was bothering you), and you can reasonably predict you won't be alive in 150 years. Given the relatively slow pace of medical research, even if there's a major breakthrough in 20 years, chances are you won't benefit from it. (If you do, 150 still seems unlikely to me. Maybe you'll get an extra five to 15 years of life out of nearby medical breakthroughs--probably not much more.)

I'm going make a wild guess that you're around 20 years old. There are l...

Maha Rudra Kriya and effortlessness guided meditations of step 1 are mild ones and can be practiced by anyone. But meditations of step 2 & 3 are not mild meditations.

One of my friends, was so confident that he is a sincere spiritual seeker and in his overconfidence without completing the 3 steps schedule, he directly downloaded the advanced audio guide of this community — the self realization guide. Whatever he had read or heard about spirituality so far was all shaken by that 2 hour long audio guide. He got so inspired that he was ready to resign from his well paid IT job and was ready to go to the Himalayas permanently. Then I had to intervene, because his family thought that I had done something to him. In the end, I asked him to write to the community directly and they convinced him that there is no need to leave his job or family and they will keep on guiding him in his spiritual path. Now everything is fine, but I sent an email to the yogi community requesting them to remove this audio guide from their website because such things should only be shared with people who are mature enough to handle it or in presence of expert teachers. They have not removed it yet, but I hope they will listen to my request.

If you are a hard core materialistic person who loves the rat race and only wants some peace of mind as a short break, then I my suggestion is step 1 of the online meditation program is enough for you and stay away from other intermediate or advanced level guided meditations, forget about attending their Himalayan camp and never go to their Shiv temple because by doing so you may slowly become desireless. However, if you feel that rat race is meaningless and you value your inner peace of mind more than anything else, then they are the experts in guiding you.

Because this question is not about their Himalayan camp, but about their online meditation program which is mandatory prerequisite to apply for their camp, here are my experiences:

Step 1 — Maha Rudra Kriya and effortlessness meditations both are very simple and easy to follow methods to relax your mind. Anyone can listen to these and you can share with your family & friends safely. I still use these audios often to relax my mind.

Step 2 — Go deeper guided meditation teases you to question your beliefs and dares you to find the real truth. As the name suggests, go deeper helps you enquire who you are really? By entering deeper layers of your mind.

Step 3 — Completeness guided meditation is one of my favourite. If step 2 helps in cleaning the mind and flush out all the old rotten beliefs, the step 3 adds a beautiful fragrance after the much needed cleaning. It makes you feel how complete and close you are from your real true self.

The self realization guide is an advanced level audio guide. I have no words to say what it can do. I would say if you really pay attention to each word of this audio then there will be no need to read any spiritual book or any spiritual literature after that. It's a complete guide and last part of audio has a deep guided meditation in which meditation teacher’s deep & soothing voice is enough to take you to the thought less state.

These speculations notwithstanding, for the most part we are simply not supposed to have that knowledge, and that is good enough for me.

Absolutely not
Definitely yes

Death time is only implicitly known, not known explicitly, mostly. Approach of death is known implicitly in terms of cumulative pervasive fatigue experienced with time. The residual life-expectancy would be inversely proportional to the magnitude of accumulated fatigue.

However, senility may not be mistaken for this pervasive fatigue. The former is rather the signature of life’s cumulative meaning which would serve as inspiration against the cumulative fatigue.

Cumulative pervasive fatigue is experienced as morbidity.

The various factors of salvational senility and life-threatening morbidity form a group of variables that makes death a contingency and thwarts explicit knowing of the time of death. Yet death shouldn’t to be deemed as fortuitous. It may be deemed as empirically calculable.

Ah, yes. Interesting question.
The obvious answer is you can't know because the future is always unsure.
However if you want to dig a little deeper we should examine who the 'I' actually is. We can see that the body changes constantly. It is not that a baby expands like a balloon into an adult. The cells die and are replaced continuously, so the body is always in a state of dying and regenerating, but the 'I' stays constant throughout life.

We change our passport photo as our body changes, but we do not change our name on the passport. We are that person that was born on the date of birth mentioned in the passport, but the body is different.
It appears we are different to the body. So if I am not my body who am I?
Krishna says we are spirit soul and we are eternal. Eternal means we were never created and will never cease to exist.
With this knowledge it is evident that 'we' never die, only the body dies, and we survive the death of the body.
If the concept of death is disturbing, and lets be honest, it is, then we should understand our spiritual nature. This is called self-realization. Realizing who the self is.
If we realize our spiritual nature then we never die. We leave one body and take another. It's no more complicated than moving house, or going to another town or country. We stay the same, but everything around us changes. If we stay fixed believing we are the body then we will feel we are dying when the body dies, and generally that is sooner than we expect!

Many emotions would enter in to muddy the water. Doubtful you could ever experience a moment for the moment itself, and what IT had to offer. You would be forever adrift in a shadowy overlay of impending doom. Your thoughts would forever be cast ahead into another time. You would lose sight of being present in this moment, and taking life as it unfolds.

Some think about it a different way, and believe it would allow them to enjoy life’s precious moments even more. That may work for their psychology. However, the bottom line is that knowing an end point is not in alignment with our journey, which basically has none.

There is no real death, but believing in, and even knowing of the moment of that ‘fatal event’, would be like having your head stuck in a jar with a mosquito.

I view the exception as being when one has been made aware of impending death due to illness. This then, is a part of their life design, and has something to teach and allow. They can prepare for their departure with the dignity that is obviously a priority for them in that lifetime.

For one simple reason:

If you knew when you would die, then you would plan everything in your life.

When everything is planned, life is boring. And none of us want to live a boring life. We should live every single day as if it was our last.

Example, lets say you knew you would die tomorrow. Wouldn't you be more worried about why and how rather than living your last day to the fullest?

Moreover, if everyone knew when they would die then everyone would try to escape death? And you know what, when everyone tries to do that, world would be a chaotic place.

Imagine, you find out you are being murdered?

Well, I’m really happy living everyday as if it was my last.

Honestly, I trade much slower today than I used to. If a few years ago, I thought “active trading” meant being in the market almost every day, capturing all moves, reacting to every news. Now I trade with a more different approach. If I don’t see any clear setups, I never force my trades out of nowhere. That’s my main rule in my trading system.

Speaking about my approach of how I’m trading these day, the first thing I always do is checking the market sentiment. Yeah, it’s not typical, and maybe even boring, but that saves me a ton of money from simple mistakes. For example, I can look at what’s

For example, I can look at what’s happening with DXY, 10US government yields, gold, BTC, major indices US500, Nasdaq, and upcoming macro events. If CPI, NFP, Fed speeches, or big high-tech earnings are coming, I already know I have to be careful because the market is about to messy. In those conditions, I risk way less than usually, lowering leverage, skipping some setups and controlling my positions on the Pocket Broker platform until I close them. That’s about a global perspective.

Now moving to assets. I don’t check assets with indicators anymore. I prefer to look at structure and patterns. If I see something interesting like range between global supports and resistances, I may find it interesting to trade intraday. If I see a strong trend on a specific asset, I will wait for small pullbacks to find a better entry point. You may think that all doesn’t make sense, but this is where screen time matters. The more you look at charts, the faster you can identify patterns over time. Sometimes one candle with strong volume tells more than five indicators.

My usual setup is pretty simple. I look for essential support and resistance zones, then check EMA 20/50/100/200 to understand the trend continuation. If price is above key EMAs on high timeframes, that’s a signal for growth. If price loses structure and starts rejecting from resistance, I reduce my risks. Plus, RSI helps me see momentum exhaustion, but of course, I don’t treat it like a buy/sell button. Same with Fibonacci. It’s useful to spot reversal trends on higher timeframes. For me, 0,61 and 0,5 levels are key zones where I should be more attentive to moves.

Additionally, considering global changes around the world and how markets behave completely different compared to 5 years ago, there’s one I changed a lot. It’s position sizing. I stopped trading with a bigger margin just because I felt more confident and calculated all possible outcomes beforehand. Now I prefer reducing my positing size if I feel too confident. That’s how you can stay afloat on markets for longer periods and avoid quick blow up of your account.

Ohhh, another thing I recalled is I trade fewer assets at the same time. A while ago, I could literally trade crypto, stocks, forex, and XAUUSD simultaneously. Today I usually focus on the assets with the cleanest structure and strongest narrative. If gold is moving because of geopolitical tensions, I pay attention there. If BTC has appealing liquidity zones, I watch that. If stocks are reacting to earnings, I focus on names with real catalysts.

So how do I trade today? I’d say more patiently, with a cold head and paying more attention to a global context. Bear in mind that trading isn’t about pressing buttons all day. I’ts about waiting until the market gives you something clear enough, and then managing the risk like you actually want to stay in this game for years.

It seems to be possible for some. Both my father and stepfather knew when they were going to die. They both told me a couple weeks before they did die. Neither had to die when they did because medically, although both were ill, neither were ill enough to die. But they did die as they predicted.

“Why is it not possible for someone to determine when he is going to die?” It is for some. And I think it is for those who do know when they are going to die occurs because they want to die at the time they say they will. I believe from the two examples I mentioned that people can often determine to live or die when they want to.

However, all the above being said, for most of us, we don’t know when we are going to die and that’s because there often is no feature of our current existence that tells us the answer.

Really simple answer. Similar to people that know they have terminal cancer is depressing. People like to live with the uncertainty and anxiety that every day is the last one.

Also, if we mathematically can estimate your life range by calculating a number of years, days or hours until you become 100 years old will leave you with a time range to define what you want to do in your life.

In my opinion, do not bother when we will die? Worry what does you in your life that is meaningful to you. Since you will leave a lineage or print that would make a change

I must answer this question in 7 levels

1. cosmos level:
Compared to this vastness of space and time does not exist like what you learn for your survival on the earth and even with that measure you are beyond Tiny to even consider not even your death but also your life sorrow and happiness… so that depends on your mind, you can say I am always alive and part of this vastness or I am always dead just like this great enormous thing we call cosmos

2. earth level

2. earth level
still, you are one of the 7billions and no one care so unless you are someone who has a huge impact on the life of millions of millions like Gandi or Hitler you can consider yourself a dead person a “Mr nobody”

3. family and friend level
you will live in this level until the last one forgot about you

4. body organs and cell level:
in this level death and replacement occur every minute and every year and every day but one day the replacement will stop and you can no longer exist or read this message or hear just like before you become alive and consume energy to grow

5. the person I call myself level:
and we should answer this question first is this voice in my head me? does my existence bound to a name that is given to me, a place I grow up, the memories I gathered, the pain and joy I have witnessed and given meaning to? of course not, we are not this, so this level does not exist at all! it is a fake! it is a lie! I am not my memory! I am not all these things that I poccess! and certainly, I am not a voice in my head!
this level doesn't exist I created it to have some meaning for myself! to re-live a memory of my past in my head with the hope that this will make me stronger and better(for a possibly similar situation in the future) or change the outcome that already happens. the moment the voices and living in the past are gone and we live in reality
(which is now at this same moment) this level will be gone for good

6. element level:

death has no meaning in this level “you will not die” your atom just changes shape from one element to another element so in this level, you don't die you exist and the time that you had borrowed in your life will change and become other element and borrowed by another form

there is a zero lvl
above cosmos there is a level everything has felt it somehow somewhere but no one can explain it! there is a divine level!

Knock, Knock...
are you there ?
are you still alive ...

A person mentally die because of his own act it may be by the way of overthinking over a trivial issues or because of his sin (disobeying, hurting others, rude behavior) because after feeling guilty, one cannot live happily. Though, this is a natural phenomenon but let's not overthink just because of temporary infatuations and misbehave, it would leads to nowhere! and Physically, we all know better that when one will going to die. Well, this too depends on one's personality, I guess! because if you make others happy and enlighten their life, than for them you will never die. Like A.P.J. Abdu

Unless your doctor just gave you three days to live, it’s your imagination at work.

As a ten-year-old, I was convinced that I would die at age 16.

I’ll be 90 next summer.

Ignore your morbid thoughts, and get on with having the best life that you can.

“I returned to see under the sun that the swift do not have the race, nor the mighty ones the battle, nor do the wise also have the food, nor do the understanding ones also have the riches, nor do even those having knowledge have the favor.” Why? Rather than suggesting that everything in life is determined by fate, Solomon was pointing out that humans cannot accurately predict the outcome of any endeavor “because time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all.” Often, something happens to a person simply because he is in the right place at the right time, or we might say, in the wrong place at the wrong time .So. Npbody knows when we will die,

At Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 we read: “For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know nothing more, . . . Whatsoever thy hand is able to do, do it earnestly: for neither work, nor reason, nor wisdom, nor knowledge shall be in hell [(Dy)—in Sheol (AS)—in the grave (AV)], whither thou art hastening.” If one is in the condition like Sheol, hell, or the grave, he is not active in God’s service nor learning any of the truth. There the “rich man” class find themselves and can see the Lazarus class’ change of condition and can talk and complain. It is as when the psalmist despondently said concerning himself: “My life draweth nigh unto Sheol. I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit; I am as a man that hath no help, cast off among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more, and they are cut off from thy hand. Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places, in the deeps. Thy wrath lieth hard upon me.”—Ps. 88:3-7, AS.

Once you really solve a problem like direct brain-computer interface ... when brains and computers can interact directly, that's it, that's the end of history, that's the end of biology as we know it. Nobody has a clue what will happen once you solve this. If life can break out of the organic realm into the vastness of the inorganic realm, you cannot even begin to imagine what the consequences will be, because your imagination at present is organic. So if there is a point of Singularity, by definition, we have no way of even starting to imagine what's happening beyond that. It is possible we can triumph over Death.

In conclusion, all Humans know that death is sure, yet they live as if there is no Death. Humans cheat, steal, grab what is not theirs, even kill, without fear of death, though death is certain to all. In the midst of death, humans live life fully, in the midst of life, there is death.

Even if I tell a human that he will die in 10 days time, the human will believe that he will somehow escape death. Very few succumb to the fear of death, and die many deaths in the 10 days. Most Humans are very optimistic.

She was in a nursing home the last three months of her life, after being discharged from hospital following a second stroke. We had supported her in her own home for over four years following a smaller first one. She hated it. She had dementia and could not understand why she could no longer live in her house, where she had lived sonce1939. She took it out on me as her nearest and dearest. A few days before the end, she was awake and lucid. I asked her if she knew what was happening and I will always remember her reply ….” Yes. I’m dying. I have seen the other side They ( her dead mum, husband, brothers and sister) are waiting for me. It is lovely”.She hung on, comatose until my sister, who lived abroad, arrived. She spoke to her then once again lapsed into,a deep sleep, and died at ten in the morning, three minutes before we arrived to see her .

That is a rather simple answer, but given the open and vague nature of the question, not much more can be said. If you have something specific that is worrying you, then please add details to your question. Click the three dots to get to that function.

Thanks everybody for your answers, it was just the question. It is not related with me, I am happy to be in this life and to live here. Thanks to all for answering my question.

This what the bible says about death

For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all, nor do they have any more reward, because all memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they no longer have any share in what is done under the sun 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10

For the wages of sin is death; Romans 6:23. So all the dead paid for their sins by dying. This sin was past on from Adam as Adam lost everlasting life and was sentenced to die and return to the dust. God did not punish Adam and Eve further,

You notice here that you would be going to the grave, no mention of your Loving God sending ANYONE to a place of torture!

All of the dead are waiting on the promise made by Jesus:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. John 5:25 So it is obvious that the dead will be welcomed back on earth as this would not happen in heaven.

When a person is resurrected, it is therefore the entire being, or soul, that is restored. This does not mean that the identical body made up of the same atoms is brought back. The apostle Paul explains: “God gives it [that which is ‘sown’ in death] a body just as it has pleased him, and to each of the seeds its own body. . . . If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual one.” (1 Cor. 15:38-44) Those resurrected to heaven would receive a spiritual body, and those brought back to life on earth, a physical body. In resurrecting a human from the dead to life on earth, God can easily reconstruct, with different atoms, the body cells with the same genetic structure and arrangement. He can, in effect, imprint in that body the additional characteristics that the person had acquired during his lifetime.

I am excited about knowing all my dead family members, relatives, and friend will be back right here on the earth with the chance of never dying again!

Would you like more details on this?

I am 71 years old and was diagnosed with ALS about a year ago. I have a pretty good idea of when, where, how, and why I will die.

I am likely to live 2 to 4 years, will most likely die at home and will not be able to swallow or breathe. The why is because I am human and everyone has to die; I just know more precisely how and when it will happen to me.

I am not obsessing over dying but rather am trying to enjoy every day to its fullest. I suggest that is a good way for everyone to live.

I think that if people knew when they would die, it would be impossible for them to fully enjoy life. Even if they were okay with the manner of their death, they would not be able to truly go ‘all out’ because of that nagging knowledge that they carry in the back of their head.

The total fool would just come up with various ways to prevent it from happening, thus forcing themselves into a sad and excruciating journey towards said death.

Great thing that God spared us the heartache.

You will know in advance in two cases - when the court sentences you to death and your mercy petition i turned down. In that case, you will know the date and timing of your death. The second case will be when you decide to commit suicide. In that case, whatever you decide about the date and time will be final. Now you got the answer to your question. Choice is yours.

That will very much depend on which religious belief is correct.

There are several differing scenarios for what happens to your soul, heaven, hell, purgatory, being issued a new body or eternal oneness, to name but a few.

I would think any one of these scenarios would let you know you're dead.

Unless the atheists are correct, in which case, you wouldn't know.

I personally, am looking forward to seeing my parents again. I've got a lot to thank them for, things I didn't appreciate while they were alive.

Believe in what gives you peace.

you could have died in pregnancy, childhood, or your 88th birthday, in a car smash, or whatever..

Altho you might be advised by a Doctor, that you have X time before death from disease,

you would still not know the exact moment.. unless you ran into merciless enemy fire,

or for some reason decide to end your life, at certain moment…

still as a child, say, most would not know their time of death..

I’m so glad you remind me that at eighty-nine, I should start pencilling in some tentative dying dates on my calendar. I don’t want my death to interfere with my anticipated Amazon shipments or hair stylist appointments.

Since u donot realise who u r in real. Real u never die.

U mistakenly believe urself as body. Whereas body is a mere time bound costume created by u. Costume can never know it.

Those people who have wasted enough time reading silly answers on Quora, and who want to lend the Grim Reaper a helping hand by offing themselves ahead of time, could do worse than listen to Ogden Nash, who not only offered a suggestion, but managed to find a rhyme for Niagara while he was doing it:

Then, of course, sometimes it’s taken out of our hands. Hearken to this exchange:

I haven’t seen Big Al’s girlfriend for a while, Joe.
Nah. She died.
Yeah? How’d that happen?
She had the clap.
You can’t die from the clap!
You can when you give it to Big Al.

I die when there are no more poems to make life worthwhile, and no more nature left to enjoy life within.

If my heart stops
don’t call 9-1-1
I don’t need shock treatments
Or Aspirin therapies,
Don’t cut me open looking for why.
Just read me poetry
It’s just a temporary condition
When I forget what hope is
When I forget what love is
When I forget how to live…

So find me some Neruda
Find me Keats, Byron, Shelley
Awaken my dying heart:
Remind me what living is for.

If my eyes don’t blink either closed or open
Take me to the mountains of my youth,
Take me to the world I love the most.
Let me hear birdsong unfiltered by pollution
Let me taste snow upon an unmoving lip
Let me feel the breeze passed from aspen to pine to me
Let me live in the wilds one last time
If I rise again, there is life still within me
Be it one ounce, one grain, one cell,
One molecule of life it will breed, it will grow
And I will be infused with life once more
If I still do not move, bury me here
But do not mourn my recent passing
For I died long before you brought me here.
Bury me and remember me when I lived
And know my eternal thanks for bringing me home.

No one can. Just don't die with out Jesus Christ. Romans 10:8–13. Mark 16;16. Go read these. God loves you. Yes we all will die but after this the judgement. Make sure your sins are under the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness is needed to go to heaven. Read also St John 3. Romans, acts, Ephesians, Colossians, GALATIANS Hebrews.1 John

I am fine with knowing “how” (and I have some very good guesses)

I am not fine with knowing “when” however.

Nevertheless, I can see the “when” coming at me on the horizon…and that’s OK, as long as I don’t know when, exactly.

I expect to die. I expect to decompose. However, I attribute a metaphysical meaning to matter, in the same way that words are not mere clusters of typographs. Hence, I also expect that the significance of the Matter that was Me will be incorporated into an intelligence, just like art exists in an artist, as well as its external expression.

John‬ 11:25‬ ESV‬‬

To me, Heaven is not a Place - it is a person. More exactly, it is a relationship that consists of people in a person, just like the Trinity. In all honesty, Heaven is summarised for me in these words:

“In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.”

John‬ 14:20‬ ESV‬‬

Thus, the Groom and the Bride are not two but one. Thus, life begets life in life. Thus, meaning is made Personal, perpetually.

For Western systems, eg Christianity, Catholicism - there are clear delineations that in a literal sense let you know you’ve died AND (importantly) where you wound up.

If you watch the show “The Good Place”, you’re in a literal sense greeted just after your moment of death. That’s a typical afterlife many people share where your self-indulgent fantasies you never imagined possible come to life.

If you watch the show “The Good Place”, you’re in a literal sense greeted just after your moment of death. That’s a typical afterlife many people share where your self-indulgent fantasies you never imagined possible come to life.

Every religion has a different path that’s taken. MOST WILL let you know you’ve died a mortal death. MANY, as observable in the movie RIPD (2013) - allow for a path to redemption. Some enter a form of purgatory as depicted in the movie Beetlejuice (1988), and some return you to Earth in various forms, intangibly, and allow you to continue existing in a different form (as depicted in the TV Show “Ghosts” and the movie “Ghost” (1990).

It’s important to note that We, collectively, do not have a ‘one size fits all’ strategy for what happens when you die. What happens IS largely dependent on your religious affiliation, if any, and as a final resort - if you’re atheistic or don’t believe in anything - then what happens next when consensus reality believes you’re dead - can be horribly confusing from a first person, subjective experience, and you may simply not even have a clue you’ve died from other’s perspective.

What happens after that for the unaffiliated is - well, in cases like “The Man From Earth” (2014), the man just continued living for 14,000 years and never actually experienced death, instead seeing the signs that he’d died by the antagonism to his assertions which would invariably challenge religious views that would result in escalating conflict with him until ultimately - he moved and made a new name for himself elsewhere.

It’s entirely ‘up to the individual’ for the unaffiliated what happens next. Some go insane. Some wind up homeless with weird stories to tell people that doesn’t quite make logical or rational sense to most because they’ve seen things over time that most people cannot fathom. Some wind up reclusive, building their wealth, others reappear every century or so (eg Nicolas Cage) reapplying their profession, and yet others go through dramatic physical appearance and gender changes and fake their death to do the same thing (Michael Jackson).

In the case of the unaffiliated. No, you don’t always know you died. You will experience weirdness in the world that doesn’t make immediate sense. You can’t talk about it, either, because people will challenge your sanity and distance themselves from you. So. Most, I assume, learn to be observant, learn to trust in their experiences as they move away from codependence on collective facts, and most develop a way to survive that requires being much more selective with who you talk to and what you say to them knowing you’ll be judged who prefer the ‘affiliated’ route.

So no. You don’t always know. Unless you’ve attached to a religion which makes that transition easier.

When my soul went into another world. I forgot about the current one we lived in today. I wasn't thinking about my kids my family. I was only trying to find the door on a walkway. The place was filled with stones. It was dark. But, my body was emitting the light. It was peaceful. Smelled like fresh rain. I could hear drops of water. And as I was about to say God?! To ask for help. I woke up. Back in this world. I felt pain, sadness, anger, hunger, thirsty, I could feel the ugliness of this world. I wanna go back to where I was. Walking down the path. Looking for that cedar door.

I have been told I am going to live till I am 86. So, I guess that means I may not see the light of day after 6 Aug that many years from now. Exactly when and exactly how I will die, I swear I do not want to know! There are people who will be able to tell you this because they have that gift of knowledge. They may not want to tell you and seriously, why do you want to know?!?

I remembered being told a story once about a guy who was a palm reader, so he could ‘read’ people: fate, life, death. He was riding a crowded train in India and somehow began randomly reading palms of those around him. He read something very disturbing in all their palms which confused him. He got off at his stop and watched the train go by. At one point after this stop, this train had to go over a ravine on a hanging bridge of sorts. It derailed and everyone plunged to their death. That explained why he was reading imminent tragic death on all those palms he had read minutes earlier.

On a case closer to home. My grandfather knew his death was near. I must have been about 3 yrs old and my elder sister 4. We were taken care by the grandparents whilst my parents went office. Over that period of time, I remembered my Opa going through a series of ‘practice runs’ with my sister and I of what came to be eventually his death ‘scene’. He would lay on his back and instructed my sister and I to lay on either side of his outstretched arms. He then made us each put a finger straight across under his nose and said “If a person is dead, you will not feel any breathing when you put your fingers under their nose.” Then, he would close his eyes, and we would just lay there for a few minutes before he instructed us in turn, to run to announce to Oma “Oma! Oma! Our Opa is dead!” We practiced this numerous of times, at different times of the day and at different parts of the house. Finally, at dawn one morning, as everyone lay still asleep, I heard my Oma get up to go to the kitchen to start the day. When she left the room, my Opa got up and came down on the mattress where my sister and I were sleeping with my 2 little uncles (who are 4 and 6 yrs my senior only). He carried them onto the bed which they had vacated, then lay himself between my sister and I. I was sleepy but recognised what was happening. I remembered his chest heaved and went still. I just waited and then proceeded to go through the motion that has been practiced millions of times before. My sister and I took turns to run to my Oma “Oma!Oma! Opa is dead!” but it fell on deaf ears because she thought it was cry wolf. Until, I finally ran again with an additional sentence “ Opa is dead! Now there are balloons coming out of his mouth!” She threw everything down at that point and it was a frenzy for a different story from there onwards. So back to this question. It may be that my grandfather knew what it would look like, the scene, of his death. But I do not believe he knew the exact moment that much in advance, though perhaps he may have known that his days were numbered. Who is to say…

If given a choice, I would rather wish I know the exact moment I would become a millionaire and God to bless me with the ignorance of when I might drop dead.

Yep!

I’m going to the Mount Baker National Forest.

But first, I’m going for a ride in a very, very hot oven.

I’ll be a bit... uhm… smaller and dustier when I come out.

Then, my loved ones will pick a seedling from the good folks at Living Urn (or something similar) and cram me into an urn.

Once I’m in the urn, my boyfriend will hike to a very specific spot on the mountain (which we have discussed).
He will plant me in the dirt, splash me with water, and bid me adieu.

Hopefully he will visit me once a year or so.
And he’ll go on to have a wonderful life.

In my 20 years of practice as an RN, I’ve seen many people, even one in my own family, that were able to “time” their own passing. The most startling event was when a lady was admitted to the rehab unit I worked on after she’d had a joint replaced. One morning she told her nurse not to bother ordering her meals for the evening or the next morning because she “wouldn’t be here” then. There was absolutely no reason to believe she was terminally ill and had no major comorbidities….but by 4:00 that afternoon she had laid back in her bed and simply stopped breathing. True story!

We don't control our death usually . Some try and some do .

It is not given for us to know our exact instant of death ahead of time .

I don't think we know why . We are not our creator .

The norm is you don't know when you are going to die unless you are very ill and the doctor or visiting nurse says you will not make it through the night. Usually when you're that sick, you don't mind dying.

Then she called all the family and close friends, inviting them to come on over and say goodbye, while he sat serenely in his easy chair in communion with God. The family and friends began arriving, filing in line for a few last words with Howard in his living room. He was alert and feeling well, in fact he had no illness or disease. There was gracious communication and goodbyes with each guest. When all were gone, his wife sat with him, her last minutes with the husband of her youth and her best friend in the world. He gave her comforting words as they sat hand in hand, and then they just fell asleep. When she awoke, she looked at her Howard. His head was against the back of his easy chair, and the look on his face was joyful and filled with peace. She took his hand again, and it was cold. Howard had peacefully passed on to Heaven while she dozed in the easy chair next to his.
