The devil ability that Lazarus possesses due to being imbued with a devil core. By fusing with Mariah, he briefly takes on the shape of a light-wielding nameless devil that seems to only appear in areas of intense human-devil conflict but is presumably related to the Twilight Lancer somehow. Unfortunately, he’s not very good at reassuring the people he’s trying to save while in this fused state.

Main Character of the second half of the Bloodlight story, a human devil hybrid that Almonde created by implanting the core of the man she loved into an orphan child in the hopes that he’d awaken. Barring slight physical similarities, that hope seems to have been for naught as Lazarus is very much his own person.

Notes: 

- Devils are ranked by the church going from Lesser to Dire to Elder in ascending order of strength. Almonde, or Baphomet according to their bestiary, stands among the Elder Devil class near its pinnacle at the moment.

- She's technically weaker than she should be due to the damage to her core, a manifestation of a devil's lifeforce that hangs like a halo above their heads. Even the slightest chip should mean instant death for any devil but for Almonde it's more akin operating with a constant fever (hence why her core temperature is fairly warm 24/7).

-  Familiar sword is familiar for those who know. It only activates for her (as its maker) and Mikhail (or anyone with his core). The sword has no name and cannot kill a human being so Almonde only brings it out when facing specific devils of similar or higher strength.

Notes: 

- She’s a little taller now than she was in her “human” days (used to stand at 173)

- Doesn’t so much walk as she “glides” across the floor

- Her voice, while gentle, is deeper than you’d think 

- She’s also ever so slightly toned (but buffs up considerably in a fight)

Tonia mastered Sangue Vile but Almonde fully realized it due to her own regenerative capabilities, to the extent that even with all the other funky powers she racks up over 400 years this is still the strongest weapon she defaults to when facing actual threats. Tonia could fire a single blood arrow at near mach speed, Almonde could fire a *torrent* of blood (think Neuvillette’s hydro blast) at similar speeds. Or have the blood cells within vibrate so fast they effectively combust into red flames. Or harden it within not just a localized limb or two but all over, though at the pesky risk of thrombosis if she held it too long.

Only saving grace is Sangue Vile cannot control the blood of others (but when she’s older she figures out a gruesome workaround to that by just forcibly transfusing her target’s sinew with her own blood and controlling that instead)

400 years later, with the church’s reluctant blessing, a certain lady procures the rights to setting up her own orphanage (and personal feeding trough) deep within the snow-tipped mountains. She had to negotiate a the regional bishop first of course.

With how dark the world of an executioner could get, Tonia often took any chance she got to be playful with a younger Almonde and Mikhail to take her mind off things and remember what she fought for. She never had any of her own but this sense of mother hood came easily to her and it’s a trait Almonde herself emulated well into her own older years.

Sister Tonia’s holy weapon allows her to offensively utilize her blood hence the numerous cuts on her arms to facilitate its use. While typically used as a layer of near-impenetrable armour, if she focuses it in a single point, she’s able to fire it at high speed as a finisher to pierce through the hardened cores of most devils hence her nickname.

Using that wastes blood though so naturally anemia and usage time are her biggest enemy and thus her appearances on the front lines drastically reduced as she got older. Nowadays she’s only called when the church needs a mission supervisor for the younger executioners, otherwise she’s content to serve as her best friend Claudius’s administrative right hand at his convent (a glorified way of saying she’s lazing away in pseudo-retirement while playing house with young Almonde and Mikhail)

Aka the token special state allowed to Cole’s holy weapon. When Tutta Ombra takes in his blood, it temporarily regains the ability to continuously generate shadows over and around Cole for a much broader range of use. When asked what it felt like, Cole described it as “the feeling of someone injecting hot sewage into his joints”. Naturally, that was scrapped from Tutta Ombra’s manual.

(Overuse comes with risks, the first being your bog standard anemia, the second being potential memory loss as the shadows slowly encroach not just the physical but the mental well-being, and the third being Tutta Ombra’s original devil potentially manifesting and erasing its wielder from existence. There might have been more wielders before Johanna and Cole but we’ll never know)

It’s not uncommon for Cole to get disciplinary hearing summons from the higher-ups. His true feelings for the theocracy that “saved” him tend to come out then.

Cole is very proficient with the tools he’s given and unfortunately his friends have to know it

Friendly moments between friends, Almonde was a pretty pious gal so she and Cole tended to butt heads, though it never got to the point of serious fights. Mikhail, as usual, rolled with everything like the sack of bricks that he is-
