Van Morrison plays acoustic guitar and sings in his elastic, bluesy, soulful voice, accompanied by crack group of jazz studio players: guitarist Jay Berliner, upright bassist Richard Davis, Modern Jazz Quartet drummer Connie Kay, vibraphonist Warren Smith and soprano saxophonist John Payne (also credited on flute, though that's debatable -- some claim an anonymous flutist provided those parts). Producer Lewis Merenstein added chamber orchestrations later and divided the album into halves: "In The Beginning" and "Afterwards" with four tunes under each heading. Morrison's songs are an instinctive, organic mixture of Celtic folk, blues, and jazz. He fully enters the mystic here, more in the moment than he ever would be again in a recording studio. If his pop hit "Brown-Eyed Girl" was the first place he explored the "previous" -- i.e., the depths of his memory -- for inspiration and direction, he immerses himself in it here. The freewheeling, loose feel adds to the intimacy and immediacy in the songs. They are, for the most part, extended, incantatory, loosely narrative, and poetic ruminations on his Belfast upbringing: its characters, shops, streets, alleys, and sidewalks, all framed by the innocence and passage of that era. Morrison seems hypnotized by his subjects; they comfort and haunt a present filled with inexhaustible longing and loneliness. He confesses as much in the title track: "If I ventured in the slipstream/Between the viaducts of your dream/Where immobile steel rims crack/And the ditch in the back roads stop/ Could you find me?/Would you kiss-a my eyes/...To be born again...." Morrison doesn't reach out to the listener, but goes deep inside himself to excavate and explore. The album's centerpiece is "Madame George," a stream-of-consciousness narrative of personal psychological and spiritual archetypes deeply influenced by the road novels of Jack Kerouac. The climactic epiphany experienced on "Cyprus Avenue" paints a portrait of place and time so vividly, it fools listeners into the experience of shared -- but mythical -- memory. "The Way Young Lovers Do" is the most fully formed tune here. Its swinging jazz verses and tight rhythmic choruses underscore a simmering, passionate eroticism in Morrison's lyric and delivery. Astral Weeks is a justified entry in pop music's pantheon. It is unlike any record before or since; it mixes together the very best of postwar popular music in an emotional outpouring cast in delicate, subtle musical structures.

Iran Bombs UAE to Trigger Financial Meltdown - Martin Armstrong | Greg Hunter

Legendary financial and geopolitical cycle analyst Martin Armstrong warned in early February “This is When Volatility Kicks In.” At the time, oil was around $63 a barrel, and now it $95 a barrel. Armstrong says, “The ramifications are quite extensive. . .. It’s not going to be over quickly. That’s what our computer forecasted from the beginning. I said this when I first came on about it. Computer says, sorry, this is not going to be an in and out situation like Venezuela. It will be dragged out.”

One of the most frightening new pieces to the puzzle is UAE (United Arab Emirates). According to Armstrong, “I don’t think people appreciate what is there. UAE became more or less Switzerland after the Swiss confiscated money from Russians. They said you knew Putin, so we are just taking all your money. . .. The money started to move to Dubai and Singapore. That’s why the Iranians attacked there. We have offices there. Everybody is there. . .. They damaged this short term, and I can tell you the banking system went down for a week. We could not even send money to our staff to get them the hell out. . .. (This is one of the reasons gold sold off. Armstrong told me that people needed liquidity.) All the cables that connect the banking system from the East to the West run through the Strait of Hormuz. . .. People look at the Middle East and think they are flush with cash. They have no idea they are in a debt crisis. Iran understands this–attacking the refineries and the infrastructure of the Gulf States. What happens? You cut off their ability to sell oil. That creates a debt crisis. . .. Iran bombed UAE more than Israel. . ..

Washinton does not grasp this. I have yelled at them, and I think it goes in one ear and out the other. This is much more serious, and if they succeed in creating a debt crisis, that will filter into the banks. Then the banks start getting into trouble. This does more than send oil up and put pressure economically on Europe and the United States. This is the key to a banking crisis.”

Armstrong says this Iran war will last the rest of 2026, and gasoline prices in the US could hit $9 a gallon. Armstrong says, “We are at a point where governments collapse. . .. What we are facing is a sovereign debt crisis globally. International debt reached $353 trillion last month. It doesn’t stop. They don’t pay off debt. They just roll it over. This will come to a crisis because interest payments keep rising. Our interest expenditure exceeds military.”

In closing, Armstrong is still a buyer of gold, silver, food and holding some cash. Armstrong says the US dollar is not going to be replaced as the world reserve currency anytime soon. This might be a reason why Warren Buffett is holding a record $400 billion in cash.

We all know about Fake News. We also find it hard to trust anyone anymore. And that’s the point of controlled opposition. Seed the doubt so everyone gets tarred with the same brush. Create mistrust across the board, leaving a population so confused they don’t know where to turn or what to believe any more.

It’s as old as the hills but in this excellent documentary by Lewis Herms, founder of Screw Big Gov, the Truth Tour and currently running for Governor of California, there is quite an easy way to spot those you cannot trust:

A Soviet-Cuban two-part feature film directed by Mikhail Kalatozov, released in 1964. The film was shot after the triumph of the Cuban revolution, the advent of the socialist regime in Cuba, and allied relations between Cuba and the USSR. Plot-wise, it consists of four unrelated novellas that tell the story of the Cubans fighting against "American oppressors" to turn their country into the Island of Liberty. The United Nations emblem uses a projection map which is centered on the North Pole. This projection was chosen in 1945 when the UN was founded and the Arctic was strategically irrelevant. Today it has become the world’s most contested zone. The center of the UN’s map is precisely the terrain that every major power is now scrambling for.

The Russian narrative is that a coming Pole Shift will thaw parts of Siberia and the Arctic coastline, of which Russia controls approximately 53%. This Northern Sea Route, the NSR, saves 15 days of travel compared to the Suez Canal route. Russia has already invested over $35 billion dollars developing this area for a future Arctic civilization.

The narrative in the United States, which has a limited Arctic footprint compared to Russia, has been more desperate. Its story began as man-made “global warming,” now simplified to “climate change.” The U.S. is hurrying to meet a 2030 deadline, and is looking to acquire Canada and Greenland which would give it the ability to dominate the Northwest Passage, the alternative Arctic trade route to Russia’s NSR.

The European Union has expanded NATO to include Arctic states, Sweden and Finland. In January 2025 the EU established the European Polar Coordination Office (EPCO) in Sweden’s Arctic region.

China’s Arctic engagement can be found in their “Polar Silk Road,” an extension of the Belt and Road Initiative into polar waters. China has declared itself a “near-Arctic state,” and has been investing in Russia’s Arctic projects in exchange for access. In 2025, it has completed a record number of container voyages through Russia’s NSR, and designates the Arctic as a “strategic new frontier.”

We are living through the most consequential reorganization of world power since 1945 and the geological advantage for all nations is clearly centered in the Arctic region. The new multi-polar world order is forming and with it, a new financial system is being built. A new world order in which energy, food, and metals become the new reserve assets. Each of the major players is constructing financial systems designed to function independently as well as internationally.

In the USA there is Hedera’s digital Hash-Graph, which is governed by institutions including Google, IBM, Boeing, LG, and FedEx. Hedera is not a replacement for the dollar; it is a faster, more programmable upgrade of the US Dollar system, that works along with Stablecoins such as USDC.

In China there is CIPS (Cross-Border Interbank Payment System), which was launched in 2015 as a SWIFT alternative. But unlike SWIFT which only handles messaging, CIPS handles actual clearing and settlement. There is also the Digital Yuan, which has already reached 2.25 billion wallets, more than China’s entire population. And there is mBridge, China’s most ambitious project, a multi-CBDC platform developed with Hong Kong, Thailand, and the UAE allowing direct settlement between digital currencies.

In Russia there is the Digital Ruble and the Mir card payment system which has issued nearly half a billion cards and processes two-thirds of all domestic transactions. SPFS, System for Transfer of Financial Messages, is Russia’s SWIFT alternative and is now connected to 557 financial institutions in 20 countries.

There are four emerging Blocs in this multi-polar world order, the American Bloc which is looking to include all of North America, Latin America, and Greenland. The Middle East is being fought for right now. The Russian Bloc is looking to include much of its former Soviet states as well as parts of Africa and the Balkans. The Chinese Bloc is looking to include South and Southeast Asia, as well as parts of Africa. And the European Bloc is looking to include the core EU and its surrounding Periphery.

What appears to be a series of unrelated events is more likely the controlled demolition of the unipolar world order, and the birth pangs of the new multi-polar world order. And through a pipeline of central banks and private think-tank institutions, all roads lead to the Bank for International Settlements in Basel Switzerland.
