Hi! I recently uploaded these items to the archive: https://archive.org/details/hjem-is-merri-1 https://archive.org/details/hjem-is-merri-2
They're completely innocent advertisements for kids about ice cream, so I'm kind of at a loss as to why they're flagged as offensive or inappropriate on top of being restricted. Did I hit a button by accident, or is there some kind of word triggering a filter?

Speaking of restrictions, why on Earth was https://asstr.org excluded from the Wayback Machine earlier this year?
It's still available at archive.today, and it was continuously archived by the Wayback Machine for over 15 years, so I strongly doubt thst ASSTR ever hosted any CSAM images.
Besides, ASSTR was founded in the 1990s, so if it did host any CSAM, it would've gotten shut down long ago. What gives??

IA has to comply with applicable laws, In some jurisdictions asstr may have included material which breached those laws. IA doesn't have the resources to employ moderators, and so when a site is suspected, it's simpler from a curatorial perspective to just not host/archive the site concerned.

Also, sites like asstr being user generated, could also have unintentionally archived works that were commercially published (and confirmably in copyright).
Given the lawsuits IA has has it's again simpler from a curatorial perspective to exclude the site concerned.

Yes, but surely, can the IA not figure out a certain user's geographical location, as Pornhub currently has to do (as a protest against certain US states' age-verification laws, like in Virginia and Texas)?

And did these laws that ASSTR breached only come into place in late 2024 or early 2025?

See, I can find no record of any relevant lawsuits involving the IA that mention ASSTR.

No site can reliably determine a location from IP, only make educated reasoning as to possible locations. But it's a technical effort .

As stated it's sometimes easier from the hassle factor to just not archive things, especially, if it's an item that's KNOWN to potentialy have legal risk.

If you want to see controversial sites 'restored' then you need to lobby for sane regulatory climates globally.

It's illegal in some countries like I believe australia to have CSAM in text form. So the internet archive has their hands tied. I'm not debating if this is right or wrong, just how the internet archive can get into serious legal trouble depending on the country.

Don't think you were singled out. Seems like there's some funny business and every video uploaded today has been added to the Qualified Research Collection, all flagged as offensive AND geolocked. Weird glitch.
