This is how actual comics fans answer this question. Not by saying "I think it was THE FLASH cuz I ran track" or "I don't know...but I think it might have had Storm on the cover." Title + issue number + location of purchase + age/grade at time of purchase + effusive enthusiasm is the standard format. Not "cuz I ran track".

I don't remember the issue number, but my first was an Archie TMNT comic. It had Michelangelo in a blindfold and behind bars on the cover. He was captured by goons and the other turtles fought through them to rescue him. I remember a scene where they had guns pointed at Leo and he said "Guns... I HATE guns" before kicking their asses. I was like 11 or 12.

I don't remember the issue number (although I could easily find it because Google lol) but I remember everything else. It was an Iron Man issue, had Namor on the cover. 1st Grade at the oldest. Mom got it from an old store called Rack & Sack. Plutonium Man was in the issue too, plus Thor, and tons of ads for the NES and Sega X-Men games because 90s. Not long after that, I watched the Iron Man cartoon on Fox for the first time. Followed by Spider-Man and X-Men, and the rest is history. Edit: It was Iron Man Annual #10. That explains why I remember it being so long lol. Also it was Titanium Man, not Plutonium Man.

ASM 499 Empire Comics, my mom bought it for me on the drive home from work. I was about 6 at the time so that places this between 03-04, I know I had also previously read most of the first arc of Ultimate Spider-Man in KB Toys. I was hooked nearly instantly. Next dose that got me hooked, as Empire was not in biking distance for me, nor did I have a bike or bus fare, was Sonic the Hedgehog from the spinners (better times) finally I found out Empire had a second location in biking distance, that I walked, and they got me on Green Lantern in time for Ivan Reis to come in off EVS’ Rebirth and Sinestro War. (which I still don’t think has been topped) Did I pass the sniff test?

I can tell you my first comic. I bought secret defenders #1 at a swamp meet when i was 9. It had a red foil cover. I was already a big horror fan so seeing a horror related superhero comic blew my mind. I still have it . I recently upgraded my copy to a better copy.

Venom: Lethal Protector, found every book except for issue four at this Death Valley antique store, after visiting the Death Valley Nut & Candy Co in Beatty, Nevada. That place kicks ass.

Strangely enough, my first comic was an issue of Jeff Smith's "Bone" from volume 1, where Fone Bone meets Thorn. I was familiar with all the superhero comics but that was the first issue I ever owned, and I remember being surprised that you could do a fantasy novel in a comic. (I was still really young and new to it all.)

I got X-Factor number 30 in one of those 3 pack bags when I was 8. Then Batman 441 to read during our family trip to Florida. Then the following year the Marvel trading cards came out and my whole world changed

Marvel Tales #106 - Reprinting Amazing Spider-man #129, the first appearance of The Punisher. That was my first comic. Got it in a second-hand bookstore in Launceston, Tasmania, at the age of 8.

One of my first comics was Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War, Teen Titans #48 and Countdown to Final Crisis. I got into the graphic novels that led to my comic collection.

The first comic I remember buying was Limited Collector's Edition presents Batman C-44. It had a cool painted cover, 4 stories from different eras and some pin-ups. I even remember walking to the store to buy it. Years later, my Mom threw away all of my comics, I had all these Bronze Age Batman, Superman and Spider-man comics that I still wish I had. About 7 years ago I had the opportunity to buy the Batman C-44 again. I saw it in a LCS for $15 and I regret passing it up.
Fantastic Four compendium bought at a bus stop. Cheap small edition with pulp paper: FF vs Moleman, The Galactus Trilogy complete, this Man This Monster and The Pacheco Run where they lived in The Pier 4 fighting Diablo with that interdimensional priestess. Later I found ReadComicOnline and got into The Waid and Werringo Run.

I actually grew up about 20 minutes from Hall of Heroes that published cyber frog but never realized that until a few years ago. In small town Indiana there weren’t any comic book shops i knew of or even a spinner rack at our grocery store. I discovered comics later though graphic novels and trade paperbacks at the library. My friend checked out DC crisis and I remember first getting Dark Knight Returns from Library. It would have been cool to have the traditional floppy and comic book shop experiences as a kid
First comic I ever bought with my own cash was in February of 2001. I had just turned 16 and was a huge Kevin smith fan and saw that he was rebooting g green arrow with a number 1 in wizard world .Never had collected ANYTHING up until that point so when I became a little more seasoned I went back and discovered a lot of Easter eggs and history in that book. I have the absolute edition I still read it from time to time. It still holds up.

I got a Wolverine comic as a stocking stuffer when I was a kid (the issue with deadpool holding him up by his swords in silhouette... kinda surprised my parents were ok with that in retrospect) I dont remember the issue number but when i went searching for it later in life I know it was in the middle/near the end of Larry Hama's run. I read it till it fell apart and then my Uncle who was a collector gave me a box that had nearly the entire run to that point
Darkhawk #13 was my first comic but I wasn't a comic fan until I got the preorder bonus from Marvel vs. Capcom 3 where I got a subscription Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited where I got exposed to DnA's Cosmic run (which was still ongoing), Kraven's Last Hunt, Kyle & Yost's X-23, Busiek's Avengers, etc. Yeah, I'll admit I came in later than most and was a casual in the 90s.
I was bored on a hot summer day so I walked to a Coles bookstore and bought Web of Spider-Man #19. It was the story of Humbug a villain who shoots insect sounds. Sounds corny, but the art was by a young Marc Silvestri in his first big break. And it had the black costume which looked really cool
Or just be honest like me and acknowledge that comics was never my main thing, but something I tap into because my friend loves them and because I’m very interested in storytelling at large. Also, my first real connection with comics was “Welcome Back, Frank” TPB that this friend gave me, and Ultimate Spider-Man. It’s okay that I didn’t ever have the spinner rack experience, I don’t lay claim to stolen valor, and I enjoy comics when I get a chance to do so.
Incredible Hulk 393(the 30th anniversary issue) for my 8th birthday party. I had a Hulk themed birthday, this was January 2004 after the Hulk movie came out and Hulk was the coolest thing in the world to me. After everyone had left and I opened all of my presents, my dad had me close my eyes and hold out my hands. When I saw that comic in my hands, I was so excited! The cover being a reference to Hulk 1, which I knew because of my Hulk lunch box, was extremely cool to me, as well as the extremely shiny green background. My next comics After that were a bit of a letdown. I got a 3 comic free trial of Ultimate Spider-Man and during those 3 issues, it was a Carnage story and Peter had lost his powers and wasn’t Spider-Man at all in any of those issues! Extreme letdown! After that, my dad subscribed to Amazing Spider-Man for me and I got to read a lot of really cool stories like Back in Black and Civil War! Telling these stories really makes me extra thankful for my dad.
damn I can’t remember the number of the sonic comic I read until it fell apart in elementary school. I’m not a real one.
