Just because YOU don't know about the treasure trove of Black characters DC has, doesn't mean they don't exist... And calling them all derivative/weak reads so diabolical coming from a bald white man who could pass for a Neo Nazi. Could be perceived as racist by those who may not know better. Do you think I would agree with your uncharitable interpretation of my words? Do you think I would read what you said and conclude that's exactly what I meant and you nailed it--or do you think I might take issue with it? If you have to reinterpret and restate what I said in order to take issue with it--you're essentially arguing with a straw man--not me.

Hi, there. I’m Mike, a pro comic writer & publisher. Erik is a real life, good friend of mine. I’m of Hispanic heritage, my mother is Honduran. Erik is one of the most genuine creators (& human beings) working in the industry. Pretty much everybody in comics will tell you that. The truth is that most well-known Black characters in comics and pop culture as a whole were created at a time when there was next to no work available for minority creators. That, but your followers may not. Let me assure you, there have been people in comics with actual hate in their heart. Erik isn’t one of them. You’re barking up the wrong tree. If you have an issue with how minorities are portrayed in comics, stop what you’re doing, and get to work making your own. That’s what I did. Then come back and tell me how easy it is to please every single reader 100% of the time. Lots of luck!

Erik has always, with his online presence, been a white savior racist. That doesn't mean he has any hate in his heart. He just thinks he's better than people of color and has to save the m, often from themselves.

Funny... I do make comics. Actively making one now as we speak. So yeah, I know it's difficult. Also, keep your whitesplaining to yourself. I know what the industry used to look like and what it is like today. I hear from other creators all the time. If Erik's feelers are hurt because I pointed out something he said came off as racist, then maybe he should self-reflect as I said in the beginning.

End of the day, it doesn't matter what you or he has to say to me on the matter if all you're gonna do is make excuses for why shit is the way it is rather than actually do something about it. Either lead, follow, or get out the way. Offer something useful rather than "um, actually." Or telling me what I should be doing as if you're my "massa." may have good intentions, it’s not coming off that way to folks. He is coming off as if we shouldn’t try to have heroes be given a fair shot to stand alongside Batman and Superman. He’s saying it’s a lost cause, but we don’t believe that. The entire industry still is living on a broken system and the thing I posed to Erik that he didn’t answer on Facebook is should we do nothing?
