Dear Families,

Happy June everyone! It's been a wonderful 2017-2018 school year and we're looking forward to the last ten days being the very best ones yet. We have had a great week wrapping up SOL testing, and are engaged in great projects and activities throughout the school. Tonight, Girl Scout Troop 1149 is hosting a movie night to raise awareness surrounding anti-bullying initiatives. We hope you'll come out and join us around 6:00 p.m.

As the weather gets warmer, we're having more and more children taking advantage of the ability to walk or bike to school.  With this in mind, we'd like to remind our parents (and children) to always put safety first. Many of the children utilize the walking paths that are accessible from the public roads.  As always, when there is high student volume, drivers need be extra careful, courteous, and follow all traffic patterns and posted signs.  Also please remind all children who utilize the pathways to look both ways before attempting to cross the street.  Safety is always our number one priority!

Our amazing SCA sponsors, Manda Krimmer and Eleanor Aban, dedicated a great deal of time on Sunday to painting buddy benches for our playground. If anybody wants a buddy, students head to the buddy bench as a signal that they want someone to play with. These will serve as a way to make sure nobody feels left out, and create empathy in all of our students.  Thanks to everybody who helped make this happen with their time and resources.

Next week will prove to be a very busy one, full of culminating and celebratory activities. Wednesday, we will celebrate our amazing volunteers at our Volunteer Lunch at Trattoria Villagio. Our school is the incredible place it is due to the wonderful support that we receive from our community!  All week, our 4th Graders will be showcasing their annual wax museum, sharing history with the entire school. On Thursday our fantastic band will be showing off their talents at their Spring Concert. We are also challenging mathematical minds with our Challenge 24 Tournament. Can’t wait for the fun to begin!

Library Book Returns Past Due

Parents, please check with your student to see if he/she has any overdue library books. More than 150 of our students have at least one overdue library book! Students who have overdue books have been told at their weekly checkouts. Those with long overdue books have been receiving overdue notices or a parent e-mail was sent. All books need to be returned to the library. We are happy to send a picture of the book if it is requested. Contact Mrs. Hurley achurley@fcps.edu with any questions.
