i think they will just keep buying up storage to increase their cloud to the point they will just charge pennies for storage just to have your storage, sort of like power companies are selling you electricity where it makes no financial sense to install your own solar panels on your house

I just ordered 64 GB of RAM so I can run a second Qwen 3.6 35B on another machine. It works about as well or slightly better than anything I could get for free or nearly free, and unlike subscriptions it's unlimited.

They have to offer storage in a way that the service itself handles the content and not just raw files, otherwise you can just encrypt everything and they can't see shit.

Corporations can cancel products/services at any time, they can and will change their terms and conditions unilaterally and of course they outright lie to your face all the time.
Remember when Google gave you unlimited photo storage when you left reviews and became a "local guide" and when PLEX let you stream with high-quality outside of your network without paying?
Just think, when was the last time a product or service got better over time?

I've got a dell thin pc I bought for 50 bucks and it runs my local services. Uses between 4 and 5w of power so that translates to around 80 cents of electricity per months.
Much cheaper than I anticipated tho I'm worried about the dell power supply.

Because EVERYTHING is turning into a non-physical RENTAL service, with the rules, quality, and pricing getting worse, every passing month. For the past 15+ years.

I dont self host my passwords or VPN, I use proton suite for all that because I cant rely on my on server to have 100% uptime due to where I live because I need it 100%.

Though I do keep multiple backups of my password database, authenticator database on local storage, on multiple bluray discs(.zip encrypted archives of course) and then as a final failsafe I have paper copies with both QR and the plaintext passwords printed of my most important logins and also a QR code+plain text that contains my entire JSON text file authenticator backup.
