Doctor (Dr.) title

[edit]

Add his doctor title in his infobox 2400:4050:8841:EE00:A44B:6EB4:B144:B679 (talk) 03:17, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted an edit on this subject so will copy rationale here. People on Wikipedia generally do not have 'Dr' as a prefix, even if known by that title in common parlance, e.g., Dr Johnson (Samuel Johnson), Dr King (Martin Luther King, Jr.), Dr Livingstone David Livingstone. Even notable Malay doctors ─ Abu Bakar Suleiman, Wu Lien-teh have not the prefix. JJLiu112 (talk) 19:55, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well dont just do it for this page, do it for his wife, every other Malaysian politician as well. ~2026-17094-47 (talk) 22:04, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Possible imbalance / incompleteness in the “2018–2020 second premiership” section of the lead

[edit]

I would like to comment on the lead section of this article. The description of Mahathir’s second tenure as prime minister focuses mainly on his early reform intentions, such as pursuing the 1MDB investigations, reducing government spending and restoring cooperation with Anwar Ibrahim. While these points are accurate, the lead does not yet reflect the full picture of what defined his second term.

A key part of this period was the political crisis in early 2020 that resulted in the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government and Mahathir’s resignation. This event shaped the outcome and legacy of his second premiership, and its absence in the lead makes the summary appear incomplete. Readers may not understand the significance of this period without acknowledging how it ended and how it affected Malaysia’s political landscape.

It may be beneficial for the lead to include a brief mention of the political instability that unfolded during this term and the circumstances that led to his resignation. Adding this context would make the lead more balanced and provide a more accurate overview of Mahathir’s second premiership, in line with Wikipedia’s standards for completeness and neutrality. ~2025-37602-55 (talk) 01:10, 1 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion on his possible demise

[edit]

Hello everyone. While Mahathir is healthy and alive as of the writing of this post. He is a centenarian after all, and it is fair to assume that very soon, we will have the need of discussing how we should organise his article, whether to split, merge, or do whatever it takes for a complete runthrough of his biography.

Hence, I suggest the formation of a small task force to do the momentous work of expanding and touching up the main article here. Mahathir is no ordinary politician, although I don't normally call a living politician of his calibre a "statesman", I think if his death is indeed announced, he should be labelled as such.

My first and only suggestion for now is the choice of his infobox photograph. Much of this discussion was inspired by this discussion made on QE2 a few months prior to her passing.

Frankly do not disagree but, wouldn't [1] be a better image to use? By the way, he did recently suffer hip fracture and is away from public life so wouldn't inherently say he is in good health though. Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 22:00, 20 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    That image is incredibly grainy. DervotNum4 (talk) 21:25, 21 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah if that's the case, I am totally got no objections against the image proposal! Pe Class Heroes010210 (talk) 21:43, 21 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

    Major Cleanup Desperately Needed

    [edit]

This article has a GA designation and it is an absolutely joke. There are maybe ten primary editors contributing hundreds of low-quality edits each, as well as thousands of borderline vandalism unsigned edits that have systematically expanded the scope of the article to be indistinguishable from a political puff piece while sneaking in systematic removal of unflattering material (case in point, this guy is the only major politician whose antisemitism is more documented and who more ferverently self-avows his own antisemetism than Erdogan and yet there is not mention of it in the article because Baginda 480 snuck this edit into is literally thousands of other edits https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mahathir_Mohamad&diff=prev&oldid=1296395633 note that there were several previous efforts by politically aligned editors to remove that same information which were repeatedly reverted (the only talk page content is about how that section is not strongly worded enough). There is a total failure to apply consensus by all of the editors involved in editing this piece. It is in desperate need of a full edit lock, a written reprimand of the most problematic editors, major style and PoV cleanup by a neutral expert, and to have its scope reigned in significantly. ~2026-20567-69 (talk) 16:39, 2 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I have a backlog of various Wikipedia articles to work on (which is not accomplished due to a busy schedule). The unfortunate truth is that the work required to cleanup Mahathir's article is extensive and not achievable in the short term. What we can do at the moment is restoring sections that are removed by Baginda 480, for instance. gavre (al. PenangLion) (talk) 17:00, 2 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, and, in response to Jeske, understand that it's not for everybody else to get caught in the crossfire of my rant. When I have time (tonight or monday night EDT if I'm lucky) I will try to make a more comprehensive list of problematic reverts/inserts, but I'd like to note that given there are many thousands of edits, including hundreds of very large edits by the frequent editors, it is neither possible, nor within the scope of my subject matter expertise to identify everything. ~2026-20567-69 (talk) 17:44, 2 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I would in turn suggest you to register as a user. You don't have to be the one that cleans up the article, but you can establish a presence around the community here and perhaps organise a task force to resolve this issue. I might actually be able to work on this article over the next few days, although it may only come piece by piece. gavre (al. PenangLion) (talk) 08:06, 3 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
To the extent this rant is actionable (we're not going to be chewing out editors or protecting the page as both would defeat the poster's stated end goal) it won't be happening immediately or unilaterally, and a good-faith discussion on what needs to stay, what needs to be removed, and what sourcing is or is not adequate would need to take place. Given the sweeping demands made, anything less would be a travesty. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 16:50, 2 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Change the section "Post-second term premiership (2020–present)" by adding the following paragraphs at the end of the section:

"In December 2025, Mahathir lodged a police report accusing Anwar of economic sabotage and undermining Malaysia’s sovereignty over the Malaysia–United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), an agreement that later sparked public controversy over provisions seen by critics as obliging Malaysia to align with US sanctions, compromise regulatory autonomy, and weaken the country’s long-standing policy of non-alignment.[1]

In early January 2026, Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for observation after he fell at his residence and was taken to hospital by ambulance.[2] Hospital officials later confirmed that he had sustained a fracture to his right hip and remained in stable condition while receiving treatment.[3] According to his son, Mukhriz Mahathir, medical specialists advised that he was not suitable for hip replacement surgery due to age-related risks, and that a non-surgical recovery approach would be adopted.[4] Mahathir’s hospitalisation attracted significant domestic and international attention, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan conveying his concern and well wishes during a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim while the latter was on an official visit to Türkiye.[5]" ~2026-26102-80 (talk) 19:48, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
