Hi, Bluesky. I suck at social media so not expecting much. Here's some of my art.
Neverwinter Dragonslayer Hi there! Here's the Key art illustration I did for the Neverwinter Dragonslayer game. Ⓒ Gearbox Publishing.
This is a good example of why generative AI opt-outs don’t work: this is my music, but I have no way of opting it out of AI training. I composed this piece, but I didn’t make the recording and I don’t control the website where it’s hosted. www.boosey.com/audio-clip/I... 1/4

Just a reminder that mimicry does not justify replacement. GenAI script generation would only accelerate how fast we tire of regurgitated formulaic content and remind us of how much we need human creativity.

Big Tech is training AI on thousands of TV/film scripts. I spoke to showrunners, IP and business affairs lawyers — as well as the programmer at The Atlantic who examined this data set — to find out what happens next The latest Series Business @theankler.bsky.social theankler.com/p/tv-writers...
Let's see how this one goes. I'm here on bluesky now! I'm an illustrator and concept artist for fantasy game properties like Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: the Gathering.
A bipartisan special parliamentary inquiry in Australia today said big tech is “pillaging culture, data and creativity” to train AI, and must license and pay for training data. This is how all governments should respond to this technology. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Meeting a fan when you are IRL.. picking up your pre ordered holiday bird (nice to meet you K!) Thankful for EVERYONE who likes what I’ve done ..it LITERALLY cannot exist as an artist without you! Wishing you all the best this thanksgiving!!

Fascinating. Fashion as an unavoidable consequence of trends and choices in economic and urban development.

Hearing the Call, an underwater exploration of a mermaid answering a call from one of her fellow mermaids in distress
This piece took me a while to complete. During the creation of this painting I switched my studio, complete many jobs and projects and dived into fight with AI, so it took many hours “after work” and “between jobs” to finalize this piece 😅 Hope you like it!
“The Death I Bring” Pencils I made on a moleskine sketchbook page back in 2016.
Let’s do this Bluesky! Hi, I’m Karla Ortiz! I’m an artist in San Francisco. I work in films, games, MtG, books, fine art, and so on! In my free time I advocate for artists livelihoods and rights. I’m also a plaintiff in a class action lawsuit against GenAi companies (Andersen v Stability). Hi 👋

this is like something a character in Animal Farm would say, and every 6th grader in the classroom would understand why it's wrong www.nytimes.com/2024/11/15/o...
Honestly love this platform, in big part due to how many artists have found their way here. Late deadlines, piles of work, worries about the future of this country (and world), but I can scroll down and see some amazing art by some of my favorite people, and it restores my faith in humanity.
As OpenAI and Meta introduce LLM-driven searchbots, I'd like to once again remind people that neither LLMs nor chatbots are good technology for information access. A thread, with links: >>
I’m a dork. Completely forgot that I created a separate Glaze bsky account already. Will go do my updates there.
Very quick catchup post first. Webglaze has been updated to Glaze 2.1, which includes the latest updates for robustness. Glaze has gone well past 4 million downloads worldwide and Nightshade well past 1 million. Multiple new research publications on nightshade and detecting genAI. More coming soon
So much recently activity on here. I guess it’s time for us to truly abandon that dumpster fire formerly known as Twitter. More updates to come in here soon. It’s been a few busy months but an especially eventful week.
Quick announcement. The Nightshade paper has been peer reviewed and officially accepted at IEEE Security & Privacy, one of the big 3 computer security conferences. May 2024. sp2024.ieee-security.org We will update the arxiv paper w/ the camera-ready when completed.
As some already noticed. The v1.1 Glaze goes hard. A little too hard, apparently due to a parameter bug. We are fixing now. Mac version already updated to v1.1.1 on the download page. Windows version will be fixed today (Sunday). Please download the v1.1.1 version later today. Thx for your patience!
Ok. Glaze app bug fixed. Windows and Mac versions both at v1.1.1. Download away and hopefully there are no more surprises or issues.
Announcement. We finally released the v1.1 update to the Glaze app. This now updates the app to match WebGlaze with our newest, most robust Glazing algorithm. Download Glaze App v1.1 for Windows/Mac, here: glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/downloads.html
Incidentally, we also attended a ceremony Thursday and grabbed some hardware. Thank you to Chicago Innovation for the honor!!
It goes without saying.... (but still needs to be said) that none of this is possible without the help of so many amazing artists. Thank you all! 🥰
Nightshade is on the way, a tool that tries to tip balance of power a bit back towards creators. Article from Melissa below. Also note: 1. Nightshade is 5x more potent than results in figure shown. 2. Details in technical paper. 3. No release yet. www.technologyreview.com/2023/10/23/1...
We will likely integrate it with Glaze and WebGlaze, and possibly with a stand-alone open source implementation. Nightshade operates similarly to Glaze, so usual things like compression, screenshots, resizing, conversion, do not affect nightshade. And there’s no antidote, only made up claims. 😝
Webglaze invites Hi all. So sorry but bsky sucks without DMs. I don't want to ask folks to post their private email addresses, and I can't reliably send folks invite codes in public because anyone could click on them and use them up. please send me email or DMs on twitter/IG (theglazeproject)
and you can always google my name for my homepage and email address.
OK this is a bit late, but we just opened up WebGlaze today, a free web service that Glazes your art for protection against style mimicry by generative AI models. If you need/want an invite, please reply here (no DMs???), DM me on twitter (@ravenben) or IG or email. No AI artists please.
oh noes.. i just realized there's no DMs, so how do I give people invites... ughhhh gonna just reply to folks with the link and hope nobody steals them lol
just realized that there's no direct/private messages on bsky... huh. wonder what went into that design decision.
Yesterday: Took a couple of hours to see Barbie with my girls, and it was a _revelation_. Seriously the best thing I’ve seen in years, and IMHO, every adult should see this movie. Greta Gerwig is genius. So many smart twists / turns, hilarious, thought-provoking, cringy. I’m still digesting
Feeling slightly less self-conscious now that I see the "popular with friends" feed is disabled by bsky. Before it just kept telling me I didn't have enough friends.
This totally makes sense. The other bits I've seen about AWS billing seems like it *could* or *could not* be true. But this self-induced DDOS really seems quite likely, especially given just how many twitter apps are just pulling data via the web API. of course none of them prep for API shutdown.
Well, looking increasingly like twitter is going belly up. For friends here, esp artists, this is my first "tweet" reminding folks to protect their art with Glaze so they can't be used to train a model to mimic & replace you. glaze.cs.uchicago.edu
New update Glaze 1.0 is so good now with flat colors/comic art styles, and even high res high contrast photographs! Here's an original & glazed fashion photo from Jingna Zhang (zhangjingna.com, @zemotion on twitter), both posted with permission.

Strange to be facing an empty tweet history. Happy to be here and let's see if this is a better platform than the sinking ship formerly known as twitter lol.
