On perhaps a more serious note - This is really the best available book in print for understanding the inner nature of Latin poetry. Califf's treatment of caesura, word order, rhythmic effects, and the like is the best I have ever read. His discussions of the lyric meters is outstanding. As far as I know, Latin verse composition is not taught in American universities, but this book shows why anyone who professes to teach and understand Latin poetry should try his hand at composition. Without an awareness of what the nature of the verse is, a would-be critic is just kidding himself. I cannot recommend this book too highly.
