How we do it here, our lady from the neighborhood of significant age, sits outside our library in her chair and we all drive by and wave at her and call out our greetings! Ann and I owe a very great deal to the Afro American community here with their constant and unwavering living examples of perseverance under adversity. So many times when I feel oppressed by some cultural or racial stupidity or other I listen to a quiet and confident instruction from persons of significant age here who remind me that whatever I think is bad, someone(s) other than me have survived much worse, and have practical advice regarding how to survive. And more often than not, we know of friends who have turned down promotions elsewhere to stay here through perceived need, as "they know where the bodies are buried". A great Karmic debt still to be paid here! And in a society dominated by internet greed and deficient artificial intelligence, those with the most life experience to share, and particularly when it comes to adversity, are our precious jewels. These are the folks who inspire me to persevere through a particularly oppressive current moment in our history.
