Same problem. And it doesn't matter if I use google SSO or another mail. It's weird if now Codex will need phone verification as well as Claude all the time.

Any update? Also agreed there some UI bug but it not the root cause, if you check the network tab on dev tool, *_dump, they fetched the correct format “+84”, so need more investigate on the sending sms message logic.

Codex CLI / IDE OAuth login is incorrectly requiring phone verification for an existing ChatGPT account. The same account logs into ChatGPT normally without phone verification. I do not use API keys and am not trying to generate one. SMS verification code is never delivered. This blocks Codex CLI and IDE login completely. Related public issues: openai/codex #20161 and #20320.

It inserts an extra "0" after the country code (+20 → +200), which makes the number invalid.

Try right-clicking the number entry field and choosing Inspect, then manually change the value using the developer pane, then submitting the form without letting the field change again by detecting your input 😉

I have the same problem. I have multiple accounts that are months or even years old but they still want a number for them! But that's not the problem. Because I keep getting the invalid_phone_number error when I want to send a code to my number!
