Western localizers have continued to demonstrate why they’re so hated as a recent English subtitled version of Babanba Banban Vampire has localized the word “pervert” into “pedophile”, an incident that has happened in numerous anime in the past.
A Twitter user called out a recent episode of Babanba Banban Vampire, revealing that while the spoken Japanese mentions the word “pervert”, the English subtitled version (likely from a mainstream streaming site) translated the word into “pedophile” for seemingly no reason:
It goes without saying that these two words do not share the same definition, but corrupt western localizers have been claiming otherwise for quite some time, as several anime in the past have been transforming words such as “pervert” and “lolicon” into “pedophile”, despite the fact that those words are not equivalent.
Never watch anime on official streaming platforms, always pirate them. Fansubs are the one who have look for.
Context seems conspicuously absent here, maybe he was being a p♥♥o. Guess we’ll have to watch it to find out.
I care what it originally reads as – Wish the publishers and translators had the balls to just tell the story as is and not make us scrounge the internet for the source material (this goes for all translations)

if anime were still made for the otaku then it would have been ‘lolicon’, but it’s not made for the otaku anymore.
So, in a way, one can actually make the argument that p♥♥o is just a stand in for hentai, just like ‘yarou’ can be all sorts of bastards, assholes, fuckers, etc.
But while you’re correct to a degree, I do think that otaku not being the main audience anymore, complete with the terminology attached to it, is a detriment to the industry, and the craft itself.
