This synthesizer, introduced in 1990, emerged from a moment of transition within the world of synthesizers. After the closure of Sequential Circuits, members of its creative team brought with them the legacy of the Prophet VS, whose pioneering vector‑based approach to sound had already begun to redefine digital synthesis. These ideas evolved into a new vision of what a synthesizer could be: not just an instrument that produced tones, but one capable of continuous transformation and almost organic evolving textures.

Its signature pads, drifting harmonic layers, and ambient soundscapes quickly became a hallmark of early‑1990s electronic and cinematic music. The machine’s influence continued long after production ended. Its conceptual DNA can be traced through later successors, carrying forward the idea that a synthesizer can be a world‑builder, capable of blending multiple synthesis methods into a single creative platform.

Today, the WS stands not only as a distinctive instrument of its era but also as a symbol of a deeper philosophy: that sound can tell a story. This sample pack draws on that legacy. By capturing the tonal essence of classic waveforms, it offers musicians a way to explore its unmistakable atmosphere — ready to inspire new compositions.

The sounds are high-quality stereo samples, specifically processed for the ultra-portable OP-1 field. Since the original OP-1 is monaural, stereo channels may be downmixed to mono. However, this has not been tested: use at your own risk.
