1) It's a matter of individual genetics, so this or that individual may be the "right" mate (both for fertility and a long-term, happy union/marriage), but that individual will almost certainly have to be a female half-dragon or human who isn't barren. #realmslore

What constitutes the right mate? Im playing in an evil campaign as a lawful evil half dragon who wants to father children, but my DM is stuck on the MM saying half dragons are infertile. But he's an og who played the white box, so having your input might sway him a little.

2) The offspring will look human, but have some draconic characteristics (resistance to the breath weapon damage type of the half-dragon father's dragon ancestor, scales here and there, immunity to dragon fear aura, etc.) The MM says half-dragons are infertile... #realmslore

3) ...because there's no half-dragon "race" (unlike half-elves). And that's because the offspring almost always "look human." They have dragon genes and so, talents and characteristics may show up in their descendants from time to time. #realmslore

Im assuming this is how draconic sorcerers being descended from dragons makes sense despite half dragons supposedly being steril.
