What the hell was MatPat's problem?

I think he wants us all to move on from and forget his older videos, and gets annoyed whenever someone brings it up.

Gotta keep in mind that since his retirement, Mat's been getting into more professional work, and stuff like "best boobs in gaming" probably won't look that good on his portfolio.

He sees some of his older videos as a ketchup stain on his white shirt.

Basically, Matpat did a video covering "Felix the Shark", which was the 12th and final installment in the "Fazbear's Frights" series, an anthology of books set in the FNAF universe.

In it, a guy goes crazy trying to find said shark animatronic because he believes that it's connected to the author of his favorite book.

Matpat took the events in this book as some sort of confirmation that there was an ongoing ARG (which Scott never does and said he'll never do) that was occurring in a small town in Utah.

Because of this, he made a video urging his fans to investigate the town, which in turn led to several of his dumbass fans harassing small businesses and even almost digging up a grave at one point.

After gaining immense backlash, Matpat had to make a video telling his fans to stop as he had misinterpreted the situation and there was in fact, no ARG occurring at the moment.

Was initially gonna use MatPat's "Best boobs in gaming" video as although that one wasn't as BAD as his other controversial videos, I feel like had the "Best boobs" video been made by anyone else, no matter how old it was, you know damn well that the internet would have scrutinized them for it and labeled them as a pervert or something along those lines.

However, I chose this video (I believe he took the video that incited the town harassment) because I don't think there's ever gonna be any future Game Theory incident that'll top that one.

I'm guessing not many people outside of the art community knew about Birdie's past actions and were too focused on getting him out.

I think most users on this subreddit tend to forget that the average person is not gonna know about the affairs that occur in an online community, unless it appears on the news.

Finding out Payton Gendron referenced us and the huge subscriber influx we got from that and Uvalde.

I remember him stating that the subreddit supposedly helped "learn a lot" and he never really elaborated further. That was something that still morbidly intrigues me to this day.

Did the reddit admins ever reach out to you guys following the incident, given how subs named by news following a controversy often get banned?

The Jonathan Sapirmann situation

I think folks were too busy with Elisjshah Dickens capping the shooter for the revelation of Jonathan being a member here to matter.

Trying to figure out the QuietKid situation

What WAS that about? As I remember seeing a mod post on it awhile back, but never getting the full grasp of it. If you could, I'd appreciate it if you could've elaborated more on that.

While I'm not a huge fan of Vivziepop's work, I wouldn't quite say that she's as BAD as her detractors make her out to be.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if most of the criticisms came from sexists who are mad that a woman was able to make a successful animated series, TWICE.

Yeah, Vivziepop has flaws, but come the fuck on.

Not once did I say that "blackface is okay"

I only stated that this shouldn't be shocking to anyone who has more indepth knowledge of Brandon Rodgers OUTSIDE of Helluva Boss.

People like Brandon Rodgers and others posted all sorts of provocative shit back in the late 2000s to early 2010s.

It doesn't make it okay, but the folks who are pulling this up as a "GOTCHA" need to understand that the landscape that YouTube, let alone the internet, was at the time, VERY different.

This would only be shocking to anyone who's NOT FAMILIAR with Brendan Rogers or his work.

Guy would post raunchy shit on YouTube all the time, back then and even now.

What's next?

People gonna bring up Joji's past as Filthy Frank and throw a hissy fit over his older videos?

(Yeah, I know the last part happened, but still)

It always feels so surreal seeing in real time footage of the shooting.

While footage of older attacks exist, it usually shows the aftermath once everything is finally over, but here we see close-up footage of an attack while it was still occurring.

And this was before YouTube existed, so exposure towards things such as this was shown only through television.

When did you first learn about this subreddit and what exactly brought you here?
When did you first learn about this subreddit and what exactly brought you here?

For the past eight years that this subreddit has been active, it has seen several mass attacks take place all over the world, with three being indirectly tied to the subreddit (the 2022 Tops Buffalo & Greenwood Mall shootings and the 2025 Palm Springs Bombing).

With this said, it brings up a question that has been burning in the back of my head for two years now;

What exactly brought you here and when?

I can't quite pinpoint it myself exactly, but I think I came upon this sub back in late 2021 to mid-2022. A ballpark estimate might've been around the 2021 Waukesha car attack to the 2022 Buffalo Tops shooting (which I'm sure brought most of you to the subreddit).

I'd love to hear your answers to this question.

Speaking as a black person (as in an ACTUAL black person, not some r/asablackman shit) I wasn't really offended by the "nega" clip nor had any issues with it in the first place.

Maybe it's because I've seen so many YouTubers (white and black, but in this case, white) drop the N-word (either intentionally / done out of malice / reading something, like a lyric) that I honestly don't care at this point.

Also, if it was the hard-R N-word then I'd understand the immense backlash, but all this seems a bit too much for the soft-a version.

This clip from one of my favorite rappers expresses the point better than me.

This is why I'll always defend a series like Urbanspook's The Painter.

Yeah, it's an overall edgy series with sometimes iffy writing, but at the end of the day, it's purely fictional horror. And I honestly rather take that over whatever "skinny-ass monster based on an IP" series that have been popping up in droves within the analog horror genre.

Red Lake was in a sovereign area where the leaders apparently denied most news coverage there, which was why Red Lake isn't talked about much (IIRC)

As for Prague, it was a college shooting, and although those are technically considered school shootings, they don't get much attention online in comparison towards schools with younger victims.

As for Erfurt, it did get a lot of attention in Germany and even the US, as the students from Columbine High visited the area following the shooting.

I don't think Erfurt is talked about much nowadays because this was still at a time where the internet was still primitive and mass shootings weren't commonly reported on as they are nowadays, especially shootings outside of the US

I always feel the need to slap the shit out of anyone who says "graped" or "unalive" on any social media place that isn't TikTok.

If you're so concerned about demonetization, then you never should've made the video in the first fucking place.

I'm hoping to see either Coffeehouse Crime or Dire Trip cover this shooting someday.

Out of all the infamous school shootings that occurred outside America, Erfurt was the one shooting that stuck out to me the most.

Keep in mind that FNAF was Scott's "Final Fantasy" game, as it was his last attempt at being a game developer, so making a comprehensive story itself wasn't as much of a top priority, but rather just him making a game about killer robots at a CEC.

Decided to use MatPat's "Best boobs in gaming" video rather than his other more controversial videos because while this one isn't as BAD as the others (like his FNAF mass shooting video or his video inciting his fans to harass a town in Utah) I feel like had the "Best boobs" video been made by anyone else, no matter how old it was, you know damn well that the internet would have scrutinized them for it and labeled them as a pervert or something along those lines.

It doesn't even have to be the internet that instills shit like this. A cartoon or video game made for kids can surprisingly activate this.

Nintendo and Sony.

Before being known as powerhouses in the gaming industry, they both used to sell a wide array of services.

Nintendo, having been around for 137 years, has sold playing cards, taxi services, and even love hotels, all before Mario even existed as a concept.

As for Sony, they're more basic in nature, as before the PS1, they mainly sold electronics like tvs, walkmans, & CD players.

Pike County shootings

The Pike County Shootings, also known as the Pike County Massacre, occurred on the night of April 21–22, 2016, when eight people – all belonging to the Rhoden family – were shot and killed in four homes in Sunfish Township in Pike County, Ohio, 50 miles (80 km) from Columbus and 60 miles (97 km) from Cincinnati. Their bodies were found later on April 22. Seven of the victims – six adults and a 16-year-old boy – were discovered to have been shot execution-style in three adjacent houses, while the eighth victim, an adult male, was found shot to death in his camper in nearby Piketon. Three young children, including two infants, were physically unharmed. At least two shooters were initially believed to be responsible.

Investigators believe the murders were premeditated, and that the perpetrators were known to the Rhoden family. On April 25, the Ohio Attorney General's office confirmed the presence of marijuana cultivation and cockfighting operations at some of the crime scenes, but did not confirm a direct connection to the killings. The ensuing investigation soon became the largest in Ohio's history.[3]

In November 2018, four members of the Wagner family, who were known to the Rhodens, were arrested in Ohio and Kentucky, and charged in the eight murders. Edward "Jake" Wagner, an ex-boyfriend of victim Hanna Rhoden, and father of her three-year-old daughter pleaded guilty to all eight murders; he later testified that he shot five of the eight victims.

Ngl, had I been in Light's dad's shoes and saw my son just looking at a porn magazine and nothing more, I'd have thought he was gay and that he bought the porn magazine so he can hand-wave any gay inquiries.

Probably because they want to:

Revel in their own infamy and be seen as "fighters for their cause."

Don't want to look like pussies for taking themselves out as well (seriously, there are some mass killers who look down on shooters who take their own lives)

Like most people, are too fucking scared of taking their own life, and wouldn't dare pull the trigger, even if it meant facing whatever legal aftermath was coming their way.

There's no kids within it, but Chezzkids does have a few moments of real-looking gore and a depiction of (artistic) nudity within it.

It's really strange how horror can draw in some people who just straight up dont like being scared.

I blame this on the "kiddification" of analog horror that occurred after 2020. Have you ever noticed how most folks in the analog horror space are teenagers / young adults?

The only three exceptions that I know of are Kris Straub (47), Rob Gavagan (38), and Urbanspook (early-30s)

and I don't think the controversy was warranted at all, calling Urban a pedo and creep because he dared add kids to his horror project.

As a CSA victim, those people can go fuck themselves with a ten-inch pole. A bunch of limp-wristed pansies who threw a shitfit because a horror series actually wanted to be disturbing and not just another clone of either Mandela Catalog, TWF, or another FNAF VHS series.

Chezzkids is the most hypocritical critic of Urbanspook, as they have gore and nudity in their series as well.

My original criticism of that series was that it didn't utilize the medium of film to its fullest extent until they started with the animation. The series got much better when it stopped being a picture slideshow.

Well, Urbanspook did state that the series was initially made to solely promote his art, and he chose analog horror because it was big at the time.

As for the Fucktoy Cory shit, I honestly don't think it was as egregious as so many detractors tend to play it off as (and no Urbanspook selling shorts of said art doesn't count as egregious, because the merch and art were made WAY BEFORE the series was created)

Outside of that, most of Urbanspook's flak came from haters thinking that he can't take criticism because of the Pastra situation, when in reality:

  1. Urbanspook has been accepting of fair criticism in the past (actual fair criticism, not just some asshat online calling it the WORST SERIES EVER)

  2. Pastra threw the first punch in that situation by talking down a smaller horror creator.

  3. Urbanspook's response wasn't even that bad. It's no different than your average Twitter spat, honestly.

The Painter is an analog horror series that follows a case about a serial killer who leaves behind artwork based on the victims as their calling card.

It's a bit of an acquired taste, honestly.

Most people hate it and think it's just edgy shock value, but I personally love it because it tries to be original and no holds barred in approach, even if the writing is sometimes iffy and controversial.

I'd compare it to the "torture-porn" era of horror films from like 2003 to 2010.

I prefer this over whatever Mandela Catalog or FNAF rip-off is popping off on YouTube these days.

An interesting thing about that book is that it's a sequel to Thorp's 1966 novel, The Detective, which itself was adapted into a film two years later in 1968, and had Frank Sinatra play the role lead in it.

Simply put, 20 years before Die Hard, Frank Sinatra played the role that Bruce Willis would serve in the first film based on Thorp's work.

Yeah, the guy was watching gore videos at a young age, so he was pretty fucked up mentally from the jump.

Although, given how long D4VD had known Celeste, I wonder if he always planned on killing her from the beginning or if it was a "heat of the moment" scenario.

Because, outside of mentally challenged people, lolcow farmers typically tend to target less attractive people as well, thinking that them looking "undesirable" would have fewer people defending them online when they become the next online laughing stock.

Unrelated, but the pipeline of this guy starting his whole music career and it ending with his arrest for murder all originating from FortNite is so absurdly funny to me.

It'd be like if I became an animator who was brought on by a major animation studio and later being arrested for having copious amounts of CSAM, and said pipeline all started with me making parody animations on YouTube.
