writer
Diego T Coleman is an Italian-born writer. His latest novel, The Disappeared –— a queer love story set during the Troubles in Northern Ireland –— reflects his interest in blending history with personal stories.
As a gay writer and a migrant, Diego's fiction explores themes of identity, belonging and self-acceptance. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, he witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of gay men being forced to live secret lives. He also observed the often-overlooked impact this had on women and children involved in these relationships. This lived experience informs the emotional core of his novel.
Married to his Irish husband for 25 years, Diego has developed a deep connection to Ireland. He has immersed himself in the culture through extensive travel and research into the Troubles, giving him an informed perspective on the novel's historical setting.
Diego’s writing has been recognised in several competitions, including the London Writers Awards, the Holland House Books’ Novella Project and Spread the Word’s 1-2-1 feedback scheme with Andrew James of Frog Literary Agency.
