Dawson Public School
Dawson Public School was established in 1972. The school places special emphasis on embedding quality, school wide, formative and summative assessments to inform explicit teaching strategies in literacy and numeracy. As an Early Action for Success school, there is an increased focus on using the data to both improve teacher practice and their ability to personalise the curriculum for all students. Teachers at Dawson are committed to working shoulder to shoulder with the Principal, Instructional Leader, Deputy Principal, Assistant Principals and each other, through our ‘Coaching and Mentoring’ and ‘Colleagues Sharing Practice’ procedures to embed a professional learning culture focused on the continual improvement of teaching practice and student outcomes. Our Learning and Support Team focuses on developing programs for students who require additional support as well as extension programs for students achieving beyond grade expectations. Our school implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning system to create a student centred learning environment focused on developing students who actively and positively contribute to the school culture. Through our commitment to strengthen student leadership, teams such as the Student Leadership Team (Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects), the School Representative Council, Peer Support, Peer Play and Playground Leader programs; we ensure all students are central to the decision making process, and are given opportunities to positively contribute to their own learning and the school culture. Dawson Public School provides many opportunities for students to participate in sport, creative and performing arts and has strong links with Chifley College Mt Druitt Campus. We are committed to promoting and celebrating student achievement and building an educationally connected community where our families are actively involved in their child’s learning. Termly Open Classrooms, Goal Setting, and continuously reporting the academic progress of our students further highlights our commitment and celebrates student achievement and growth. We at Dawson Public School are committed to providing the highest quality education within a stimulating and stable environment so that we meet the needs of all students and the aspirations of the community.

Maintenance
To ensure the safety, reliability and longevity of our schools, every school across NSW receives maintenance. The Department undertakes preventative and routine maintenance every year, and repairs as needed. The Department also reviews the planned maintenance program for each school every year and reviews those items that are predicted to require work to help prolong the life of the school buildings and facilities.
