Studies of the stability of β-Ca2SiO4 doped by minor ions

Abstract

The Ca2SiO4 (C2S) samples doped by minor ions of Li+, K+, Na+, Sr2+, Mn2+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Al3+, Ti4+, Mn4+, P5+ and S6+ have been sintered at 1500°C for 3 hr with a slow cooling and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). It was found that the forming amount of the β phase depended on varieties of dopant ions and the composition stoichiometry in the samples. The results of XRD and DTA measurements indicated that the lattice parameters and phase transition temperatures of the samples also varied with the change of the variety of dopant ions and composition stoichiometry in the samples. Discussion is made on the stabilization mechanism of the doped β-C2S on the basis of the experimental results.
