Requires ELDEN RING version 1.16, 1.14 or 1.13. Older versions of the game are not supported.

You cannot play in the official online mode while using this. (The mod doesn't affect your save data, however.)

Quick-start:

Prerequisite: Turn on Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (HwSch) in Windows graphics settings (expect screen tearing and stutters while HwSch is disabled)

Using ERSS-FG standalone (recommended):

  • Extract the attached file's content to the ELDEN RING\Game\ directory (including ERSS-FG.dll, D3D12.dll and the folder ERSS2).
For using alongside ReShade: install the file ERSSReShadeStub.addon to ELDEN RING\Game\

  • Disable Easy Anti-Cheat, either by putting cmd /c start eldenring.exe & rem %command% into launch options in Steam or by using some other tool.
    For Steam Deck (Linux) users: cmd=(%command%); cmd[-1]="eldenring.exe"; WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b;d3d12=n,b;dxgi=n,b" "${cmd[@]}"

  • Set Resolution in the game's Graphics menu to your target resolution (i.e. your monitor's resolution)

  • Open the mod's configuration overlay with the Home key, select a Frame Generation and a Super Resolution method, restarting the game is required for turning on Frame Generation.

Using ERSS-FG alongside ReShade (requires ReShade version 6.0.0 or newer, supports FrameGen):

  • Install ReShade with full add-on support

  • Install ERSS-FG using the instructions above including the file ERSSReShadeStub.addon

  • Optionally install my modified version of ReShade to enable rendering effects before UI blending (enable Inject Effects in the advanced settings). ReShadeHEX installer is attached below.

[Deprecated] Using ERSS-FG as a ReShade addon (version 6.0.0 or newer, FrameGen is not supported):

  • Install ReShade and ERSS-FG following the instructions above

  • Delete the file D3D12.dll that comes with ERSS-FG

Notes for Wine/Proton users (including Steam Deck, Linux and macOS users):

  • The mod's overlay may be invisible while running in exclusive full-screen.
Workaround: switch to borderless mode, or turn on "Override Full screen state" in ERSS advanced settings before switching to full-screen.

For Mac OS users (or those running the Steam client through Wine instead of using the native Linux Steam client):

  • Add the file name (excluding the ".dll" extension) of D3D12.dll, ERSS-FG.dll and the files found in ERSS2\bin to the DLL overrides setting in Wine configuration. See wiki.winehq.org  and the documentation of your Wine wrapper (Crossover, Whiskey, Bottles, etc.)

  • Use a different method to disable EAC, don't use the commands above.

  • Install the Alternative overlay toggle config optional file if you don't have an external keyboard.

Notes about usage with other mod loaders (Special K, EML, ModEngine2, etc.):

  • The D3D12.dll loader that comes with ERSS should work alongside EML, ME2 and some other mod loaders (except Special K). Don't use other mod loaders unless the previously mentioned methods fail.

  • Remove the included D3D12.dll file.

  • ERSS-FG.dll and ERSS2 (folder) must be in the same directory

  • Make sure ERSS-FG.dll is loaded as early as possible (before or at the same time as the flash-bang)

  • Steam overlay may refuse to work

  • For Special K:

    • Run Special K in service mode

    • Delete the D3D12.dll file that comes with ERSS unless it's not installed to the game directory.

    • Add ERSS-FG.dll to Special K plug-in list and set the load order to Early.

Add-ons (attatched below the post)

Installation: Extract the attached add-on archive files to "ELDEN RING\Game" (add-on DLL files are located in "ELDEN RING\Game\ERSS2\addons")

  • Remove Frame Time Constraint: Prevents game physics from being slowed down when it's frame rate drops below 20fps.

Known issues:

  • Flickering global illumination, most visible in shaded areas. (It's caused by either NVIDIA drivers or ELDEN RING itself but made more prevalent by the mod.)
    Workarounds:

    • Use the GI Glitch Mitigation options in Advanced Settings -> Frame Generation

    • Rolling back NVIDIA GPU drivers to version 552.x

    • Using DXVK + VKD3D (doesn't support DLSS on Windows, it does on Linux however)

    • Setting Global Illumination to Low can reduce the intensity

    • Some reported that limiting the game's frame rate below your GPU's capability may reduce the flickering.

  • Minimizing the game in windowed mode while FSR-FG is enabled crashes the game.

  • (Unconfirmed as of 4.0) FSR FG + Special K: if Elden Ring's screen mode is set to Full-screen the game will repeatedly try to enter exclusive full-screen mode causing screen flashes.

Ok, so I'm not too sure if I should set the in-game option to borderless or leave it on exclusive fullscreen when using DLSS-G. Edit: Yeah, HDR doesn't look right with DLSS-G or FSR-G on. It's more or less fine, if not a little washed out, but light sources are completely white-crushed even with the HDR settings set properly in advanced settings. When I turn Fullscreen to Borderless it gets super color crushed and just looks awful, so I'm assuming that I'm supposed to leave it on Exclusive Fullscreen in the game options.

huutaiii

You need to set the game to Full-screen and turn on HDR in both the game's settings and ERSS. The brightness settings in ERSS aren't accurate to the HDR standard so the 'correct' value might not match your monitor's specs. Unfortunately I haven't been able to exactly replicate ER's HDR because they're using a quite unusual method of configuring the monitor and metadata. My best guess is it's in HDR10, because ER's own color management looked correct on my monitor when I forced the output format to that, but somehow the standard HDR10 implementation is completely off when I tried it, so I had to tweak it a bit, I'm still trying to figure it out. sorry there isn't much I can do ATM as I'm yet to be an HDR expert.

Hyyt Hilman

I see. No worries, just wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for the reply.

CoffeeBerry

Is there a way to uncap framerate? (without frame interpolation)

huutaiii

There's a frame rate unlocking mod on Nexus which is what I'm also using.

Henlea

My game's all stretched after enabling this on ultrawide. Is there any way to fix that? And is there a way to force enable DLSS3 FG on RTX 30?

huutaiii

I'm working on a fix for the stretching, but you may also install the 'Remove black bars' mod on Nexus to fix it yourself. And no, it's not possible to run DLSSG on 30 series GPUs.

Whiteness

Man, I thought that variable name was WINED LOVER RIDES instead of WINE DLL OVERRIDES. I liked the idea my first impression provided more ☹️😆

Paul Graupner

Will there be a version with DLSS 4 available for download next week when the RTX 5090 is released? Or will you offer the version?

huutaiii

I'm not sure yet. I still don't know when the new API will be available, if there's one, and whether it's gonna require new hardware. It's seems swapping the DLLs work for now until they unlock the ability to override DLSS4 on games with DLSS3. You can grab the DLSS4 files from games that supports it and replace the ones I shipped with ERSS, then set the DLSS Render Preset to 'default' to use the new transformer model. Swapping the nvngx_dlssg.dll seems to break frame gen on my end so you should avoid doing that

ThunderChild

Runs much better and more stable than what PureDark put out. Great work. GI flickering is a non-issue with raytracing off, which is a bummer but RT is pretty unoptimized in this game anyways.

José

Tranformer now has a second preset, preset K. On 1080p I can't help but find Transformer to look weird in this game, I see some weird tearing on my character's head.

huutaiii

You should be able to use the new preset by choosing 'default' in ERSS overlay after swapping in the new DLL. From my experience preset J seems to response poorly with missing or incorrect motion data. ER's motion data is kinda broken, on certain models more than others, and it's simply impossible for me to fix that. Even in previous FromSoft titles it's also broken and I'm not sure why

Paul Graupner

First of all, thank you for your answer. I have one more question. Something that has been mentioned several times in the comments is that the included HDR function does not display the correct colors in the game if you turn on frame generation. I'm wondering if it would be possible to use the HDR color display in the game and start frame generation via the mod. Would it be possible to start frame generation with the standard HDR mode in the game and if not, why doesn't that work? I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

huutaiii

To make frame gen work I had to replace the game's UI blending pipeline which unfortunately also handles HDR color conversion

Paul Graupner

ah okay, I understand. Great work so far. Are you trying to improve your implemented HDR even further? Smooth Motion will be available for the RTX4000 series at some point. I'm excited to see how that works.

huutaiii

Unfortunately I've not been able to learn more about Elden Ring's HDR to make improvements in the mod. I'll give it another try. Oh I didn't know about smooth motion. I wonder how they're gonna make that work

emoose

For the GI flicker I've noticed using alt+enter a few times seems to resolve it, but that then forces game to run in a window and doesn't allow going back to fullscreen, can use something like Lossless Scaling with LSFG disabled to make that window fullscreen though. Wonder if GI has some issue with games fullscreen mode (maybe Windows full-screen optimizations are affecting something?)

huutaiii

It happens in windowed/borderless mode as well. My guess is that the driver somehow can't properly handle submitting multiple GPU workloads in this case

Paul Graupner

I only get flickering with the new presets J,K if I move the camera too quickly. I play without FG.

Shy

Not sure if you saw on the nexus page but in my case disabling Nvidia Reflex in the mod removed the GI flicker completely.

huutaiii

with FSR FG or DLSSG? On my end disabling Reflex doesn't fix it for either. Also FYI, Reflex isn't implemented in the Nexus version.

Shy

I see I didn’t realize. But I’m currently running with no frame generation and no Nvidia Reflex just DLSS at 60 FPS and that fixed every instance of flickering after trying multiple versions of the mod. Was even repeatable between game restarts for me but if the nexus version has no reflex I’m unsure why this solved it then as that was what I tried first.

tenten

Low Latency Mode≠NVIDIA Reflex https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/6794?tab=posts

huutaiii

oh do you mean the low latency mode in NVIDIA control panel? I never turn it on so I never knew

Shy

I didn’t remember that Nvidia Reflex wasn’t in the nexus version but no literally the reflex toggle in the latest patreon version stopped flicker for me. I could simply turn it off and on and you would see the flicker come and go immediately.

Manuel Herrera

latest version breaks HDR BTW. it doesn't let it "trigger". And I mean the REAL HDR that only works on full screen. and also BTW... there's a workaround so you can get the real HDR working on windowed mode with another mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/2794?tab=description it's worth noting that the game's HDR implementation is the only one that works properly.

huutaiii

it's simply impossible to use the game's HDR display mapping with frame gen. what's your setup? it was working on my end. FYI, ERSS also implements the same workaround as the one you linked

Manuel Herrera

I managed to get the windowed mod working as intended. It launches in full screen, grabs the HDR data, and when I switch to windowed mode, the game doesn’t bug me to revert to SDR. I'm currently using frame generation with "lossless scaling" alongside HDR, and it works 100% fine. That said, I prefer FSR for performance reasons, so I'd rather use that instead if possible. So yes, it’s possible to use frame generation and HDR simultaneously. However, I’ve run into an issue when using your mod as a standalone (not as an addon): the in-game HDR doesn't fully do its thing. Normally, when you start the game, it enables HDR and it starts off looking oversaturated, then the colors correct themselves after clicking start. In my setup when using your mod in standalone mode, the colors look off because that initial oversaturation phase is missing. I suspect the game triggers HDR immediately, but the proper "log" color profile (which corrects the colors) only comes in a few seconds later. I know it sounds a bit confusing, but in short: HDR in windowed mode with lossless scaling for frame generation is possible, the thing is, because your mod doesn't allow the game the display to "trigger" HDR, when you enable HDR manually the display just boost the image to 1000 nits (or whatever you have it set at) but it's using the SDR color space, so everything looks wrong.

huutaiii

The reason the other software allow using frame gen with the game's own HDR is that it has an improper integration of frame gen, it doesn't provide the API with correct motion data and doesn't handle UI masking resulting in inferior image quality. In order to properly integrate both frame gen methods I had to replace the game's UI blending pipeline which includes color conversion. In turn I had to re-implement HDR, and I decided to follow Microsoft's official documentation instead of trying to recreate ER's proprietary and non-standard implementation.

Ikki

XeSS Anti-Aliasing looks really buggy even when updating to XeSS 2, on a level that is far inferior even to FSR3, do you have any idea of whats causing it? And if you can manage to fix it, is there a way to implement XeSS 2 Frame Gen? To players without NVIDIA, XeSS is the best upscaler generally but its really strange on ERSS

huutaiii

Unfortunately the XeSS 2 SDK doesn't seem to be publicly available. I'm sorry but it's not possible to update the mod to support XeSS 2 and XeSS frame gen, at the moment.

Ikki

Okay then, but do you know why XeSS looks so off compared to other games? Generally its far superior to FSR3

huutaiii

my guess is that it's because of how the motion data in this game isn't very clean and the grass/leaves are not rendered properly, and XeSS somehow is more sensitive to that. but AFAIK XeSS works differently on intel GPUs which I don't have so I can't really judge it.

ThunderChild

Is there any way I can use DLDSR+DLSS+FG+HDR in Elden Ring? I would love to try 4320p, DLSS Ultra Perf and FG with HDR, but the game cannot be set to fullscreen for DSR to work.

huutaiii

Unfortunately I can't make DLSSFG work in exclusive full-screen for ER without some issues. Here's a workaround I found out: - Change your display resolution to 4320p to enable DLDSR on everything - Disable DPI scaling for ER, screenshot: https://tinyurl.com/bju7v69z - Launch the game and set it to 4320p

Manuel Herrera

I guess you made the impossible, possible! Great job with the new update BTW, HDR highlights and colors now perfectly match the original implementation! I can finally use FSR and get proper HDR at the same time. So again, great job!

endrick irawan

There is small black square on the left of my screen with this mod please help.

Jamal Sol

This is absolutely incredible. I have only one real issue- when using DLSS transformer model the image quality is incredible but turning the camera creates giant smeary block artifacts around the edges of the screen. Is there a fix for this?

Mᴀɴ ᴏғ Tᴏᴍᴏʀʀᴏᴡ

First of all thank for this incredible mod! I have a problem there are black squares on my screen on both sides left and right only when I move the camera. DLSS and FG on.

Jamal Sol

Having the same issue with FG off when using the transformer model. If I change to preset E it goes away

huutaiii

I think this is a general issue with the new models, I've seen a similar behavior in officially supported games as well, where it fails to track a feature and creates a smudge. There's a nvngx_dlss.dll file that has a higher version number (310.2) than the one I included, perhaps using that version would help.

Jamal Sol

Thank you so much. I will definitely try that and report back. Again, your work is a godsend. Thanks for your diligence.

devnue

Here's a video of it happening in a different game: https://youtu.be/WVbs8Vln2AM?t=78 , I believe that, as Huutaiii stated in another reply, it's a general issue with this new transformer model. The only way I have seemed to alleviate it is to disable NVIDIA Reflex in both NVCP and in the Mod Settings, and the barely helped if at all. I also tried updating to the latest DLSS 310.2.1 dll and noticed no appreciable change. It's quite a shame as the visual quality while standing still is the best I've ever seen, especially running it on 1440p DLAA mode. I imagine we will simply have to wait for a newer, updated model to hopefully fix these issues.

Paul Graupner

Unfortunately, I don't quite understand how to use your reshade. Can you please explain it to me in more detail?

huutaiii

My modified ReShade is only required if you want to use the Inject Effects option in ERSS. Just install it like you would regular ReShade, then the option in ERSS settings will be unlocked Otherwise you may use the official ReShade with full addon support

Arkadiusz Gochnio

I'm having trouble with HDR + Framegen + high FPS + adaptive sync/vsync. I can't find the correct settings that will allow me to use all the features. When I disable V-sync I get 100+ native FPS (200+ with framegen) and terrible tearing. When I enable v-sync it's stuck in 60 fps, framegen or not. Any way of reliably turning on all of these features?

huutaiii

Are you running the game in exclusive full-screen? How did you turn off VSync?

Amine Chihi

Hello, in my steam deck, it seems I activated everything, the mod works, but there is a yellow inscription on top "Hardware-accelerated GPU sheduling is not enabled". I also can't select Nvidia DLSS-G, there is only AMD FSR-FG

huutaiii

The Steam Deck does not support DLSS-G so only FSR-FG is available and it should work normally despite the yellow warning message. Also you should install the RemoveFrameTimeConstraint add-on if the interpolated frame rate is below 40fps to keep the game from slowing down.

José

FPS unlocker? Wow man, this is really becoming the definitive Elden Ring QoL mod now.

Gabor Szabo

Dude, this mod is a must. Now that it's got DLSS FG and even MFG! Makes me wonder why Fromsoftware couldn't do it, they live in 2016.

乐天 周

My device is the ROG Ally X(BAZZITE OS). After installing the plugin, the overall effect is great. However, when I rotate the right joystick, I notice a very brief display glitch on both sides of the screen — it looks like a rendering delay or some kind of visual artifact.

huutaiii

Unfortunately I'm unable to fix those artifacts. You can try installing the Remove vignette mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/177) and Remove chromatic aberration (https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/179) to make the glitch less noticeable. Lowering your graphics settings and render resolution, to make the game run faster, will also help.

Sandor Horvath

The ERSS-FG menu is in the upper screen, and I can not move it down. So now it's useless. How can I move it down so I can configure it?

huutaiii

try deleting imgui_ERSSFG.ini in the folder ERSS2 if that doesn't help, can you show me a screenshot? also are you using something like reshade or special k?

hoangkhang ly

I got a problem, The ERSS keep saying "invalid elden ring executable version 2.6.0.8, failed to install hook for executable" is there any solution bro?

huutaiii

there should be no copy of the game that says 2.6.0.8 where did you get it?

Zoltán Virágh

Any chance of adding Ultra Wide Screen support that's compatible with the seamless coop mod? Or is that more a mod issue?

kotn3l

just load ERSS with modloader (move ERSS-FG.dll and ERSS folder into the mods folder where other dll mods are loaded from, and delete the d3d12.dll) OR load seamless this way and you dont have to move ERSS

Christopher

Hi there, I was just wondering if this Full Dynamic Range Fix mod is even necessary with ERSS-FG installed? https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/4919?tab=description Is this just another HDR fix that ERSS-FG already addresses and makes redundant, or should I try and use the above mod as a ReShade? It seems like a nice vanilla+ option but I'm not too familiar with how to even use ReShades with ERSS-FG. Thank you for your hard work!

huutaiii

I think that ReShade preset is meant to be used in SDR rather than HDR so you likely won't need it if you use HDR.

Tib

Hello, just subbed to you for the 2nd time to update FG. It does it's job overall but whenever I enable DLSS - not FG but Upscaler - I have weird boxy artifacts whenever I move my camera. Can you guide me how to fix it? Thanks - - (I already installed vignette remover) I play at 4K locked to 60FPS : https://i.imgur.com/kzWil1A.jpeg

huutaiii

Unfortunately that's an issue with DLSS 4 and Elden Ring's sky that can't be fixed. You can reduce the effect by getting higher frame rates or changing DLSS render preset to E/D instead of K/J

Levi Ainsworth

I'm having an issue when this mod is installed, in the main menu I can bring up the overlay, but once I load in all I get is black screen. If I press windows key or have another window open, the image will return. As soon as I return to the Elden Ring window, it goes black again. Am I missing something?

Brandon Phelan

This is truly amazing! I'm loving that I can play at 4k/144Hz/GSync/HDR/DLSS/FG on my RTX 5090. Only problem I'm having at this point is the GI flickering due to FG. Hopefully that can be rectified in the future.

Brandon Phelan

For what it's worth, setting the FPS cap to 120 within the settings seemed to resolve the GI flicker for me. Once the FPS gets close to that of the refresh rate is when the flickering seems to happen.

Alec S.

I have to say, I've been enjoying this to its fullest, absolutely love it. That said, earlier today I upgraded my CPU to a 9950X3D, and while I'm not entirely sure if that's the cause or not, the game's been crashing at cutscenes. It works fine when I remove the files and boot it back up to watch them, though. More troubleshooting to be done, but any tips would be appreciated!

huutaiii

I'm glad you liked the mod, and very sorry for not replying sooner. Can you send me the log files though Discord, to help me try to figure out what went wrong? (They're in the ERSS2 folder in case you didn't know.)

Dre

Hello. I actually havent bought the game because I am not sure if I am capable of running it smoothly on my laptop so i pirated it for now. I tried the free erss mod but it gives me non supported executable version 2.2.0 . is there any way to get this fixed?

Alex M

When i push HOME key, i see the UI come up, but i cannot interact with it using the mouse. I'm also using luke ross VR mod, that may be interfering... i'm not sure. Does a game controller work out of the box with the UI? if not, how can i enable it via config change.

huutaiii

Yeah certain mods can interfere with it. Replace ERSS-FG.toml in the Game\ERSS2 folder with the one from here: https://www.patreon.com/file?h=114748623&m=371391499 Then you should be able to toggle the overlay by pressing both joysticks and control it with a gamepad.

SebK

Hi, thanks for your work, great mod, but i have a question, would it be possible to make it compatible with souls vision mod? https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/6968?tab=description

huutaiii

They should be compatible as I checked it before with both FG providers. You should also ask the other mod's developer if the issues have come back. Btw I think someone in my discord server mentioned being able to get both running.

Is the Mod compatible with version 1.16.1? I just updated my Game, reinstalled all of my Mods and this one but it keeps instantly crashing. When I remove the Files "ERSS-FG.dll" & "ERSSReShadeStub.addon" the game will launch however. I cannot rollback to 1.16.0 either since it's quite bothersome to do that. Thank you in advance

And by instantly crashing, I mean literally not even reaching the Logo Screen, it's just black for a few seconds then crashes.

Can this be used together with Mod Engine + Seamless?
