China’s Huawei to open new datacenters in Brazil in 1Q24
Chinese technology giant Huawei is building a third availability zone (AZ, or datacenter cluster), planned to go live in the first quarter of 2024, for its Brazilian cloud region.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Mark Chen, director of Huawei Cloud Solution Sales, during the company's Cloud Summit Brasil 2023 event.
Without committing to dates, Chen also announced the development of a second and a third availability zone in Mexico, and a third one in Chile.
In Latin America, Huawei Cloud has three main cloud regions, in Chile, Brazil and Mexico, and two country regions, in Argentina and Peru. These five regions comprise nine availability zones.
Each zone contains one or more physical datacenters. Usually, in the case of Huawei, they comprise three sites, key for redundancy, back-up and even latency purposes.
“Within an AZ, computing, network, storage, and other resources are logically divided into multiple clusters. AZs within a region are interconnected using high-speed optical fibers so you can build cross-AZ high-availability systems,” according to the company website.
In most cases, Huawei also works with partners, or hyperscale and datacenter providers, to develop and host its zones.
The company’s data structure in Latin America also includes 10 edge points-of-presence in countries such as Colombia.
Worldwide, the company reports 30 cloud regions and 84 availability zones.
