Ukraine claims these are Ukrainian chronicles. But look what they actually say about the people of Kiev: "российский народ" (Russians).
Ukraine didn't exist as a country in the 19th century, so creating a national history requires some creativity. The solution is “fake it till you make it”, take Russian chronicles and rebrand them as Ukrainian.
Most people can't read Old Church Slavonic and Old Russian anyway, so who's going to check?
But here's the problem: this "Ukrainian chronicle" doesn't identify as Ukraine. It identifies as Russia (not even Rus!). It literally calls itself Russia and states that these chronicles are about the Russian people (российский народ). Oops.
