Elated to receive the author copy of my book “Italian Witchcraft and Shamanism”, the fruit of years of labour, to get awarded my PhD.
I’m honoured to be the author of the first-ever academic book on the topic. There are inestimable sources from the past and the present on regional manifestations of Italian witchcraft, but no systematic book on Italian witchcraft and Italian shamanism as a whole.
As part of my PhD research, I systematised the Italian vernacular healing tradition as “The Tradition of Segnature.”
I cannot think of any commercial (non-academic) book you find in English that I would recommend. They’re usually American interpretations of the bits of Italian witchcraft they were exposed to.
Here’s the link to get the book ➡️ https://amzn.to/3V6g2Kk
I’m afraid academic books tend to be quite expensive, but hopefully, you can find this via a library as well! I’m sure you’ll find a way. 😉

An academic perspective can offer valuable insights and support to esoteric practitioners, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the subject and its various contexts. By delving into academic research, practitioners can gain a deeper knowledge of the historical development of esoteric practices and beliefs, allowing for a more informed approach to their own practices. Comparative studies enable practitioners to broaden their understanding by exploring different esoteric traditions and belief systems, fostering the integration of diverse elements into their own practice.
Academic research also promotes critical thinking and analysis, encouraging practitioners to refine their approach to esotericism by questioning beliefs and practices. This helps to avoid dogmatism and cultivate a more open-minded attitude. Moreover, academics often investigate the ethical implications of esoteric practices, guiding practitioners towards more responsible and conscientious engagement in their work.
Understanding the cultural context of esoteric practices equips practitioners with a nuanced appreciation of the beliefs, symbols, and rituals they engage in. This fosters respect for the diverse cultural origins of esoteric traditions and encourages cross-cultural understanding. Additionally, academic research often draws upon interdisciplinary insights from fields such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, and religious studies, enriching practitioners' understanding of esotericism and opening up new avenues for exploration and growth.
Finally, engaging with academic research can help esoteric practitioners gain credibility and legitimacy within the broader scholarly community, promoting dialogue and collaboration between academics and practitioners. This fosters mutual understanding and respect, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful experience in practitioners' spiritual journey. By embracing an academic perspective, esoteric practitioners can deepen their understanding, expand their horizons, and enhance their practice.

The Green Man was invented in 1939.
Not the carvings. Those are real, medieval, and have a fascinating Christian history. But the god, the named figure currently worshipped across contemporary Paganism as an ancient vegetation deity, was assembled in the twentieth century from a misread folklore article, a collapsed witch-cult theory, and a Jungian response to ecological anxiety.
This video tells that story properly, with the scholarship, the primary sources, and the reception history. No gatekeeping, no debunking energy. Just the real genealogy of a god we made ourselves.

The lie in the word “alchemy”

Alchemy is far more than the myth of turning lead into gold. In this video, I explore how alchemy developed across Hellenistic Egypt, China, India, the Islamic world, and Europe as a rich tradition that united experiment, medicine, cosmology, and spiritual transformation. We look at major alchemical ideas, key historical figures, and the practices that shaped both occult traditions and the emergence of modern chemistry.
My new episode examines the major scholarly debates around alchemy, showing why historians no longer see it simply as failed science or pure mysticism, but as a complex way of understanding matter, knowledge, and the transformation of the self.

What is Solomonic Magic?

What if everything you thought you knew about Solomonic magic was wrong? In this video, I explore Gal Sofer’s groundbreaking study of Solomonic magic and why it changes the way we understand the Key of Solomon, the Goetia, and the wider grimoire tradition. Far from being a single, unified body of ancient magical wisdom, these texts emerge as a fluid network shaped by scribes, translations, and centuries of adaptation across Jewish, Christian, Arabic, Greek, and Latin traditions.
We will look at the real history behind Solomonic texts, the myth of the “original” grimoire, the Jewish roots of demon-summoning traditions, and why this matters not only for scholars of Western esotericism but also for contemporary practitioners. If you are interested in grimoires, ceremonial magic, the Key of Solomon, the Lesser Key, or the history of Western occultism, this episode will give you a much deeper understanding of what is really at stake.

What happens when you discover that the spiritual tradition you trusted may not be as ancient, authentic, or historically grounded as you were led to believe? In this video, I explore one of the most difficult questions in contemporary magic and Paganism: can a practice still be meaningful if its origin story falls apart? Drawing on examples such as Wicca, Stregheria, folk magic, and the academic study of esotericism, I look at the difference between historical fact and spiritual truth, why this tension feels so personal, and how practitioners can move forward without self-deception. If you have ever questioned lineage claims, authenticity, or whether scholarship threatens spirituality, this episode is for you.
