It's difficult enough to focus, how do I keep interest in a topic that doesn't interest me?

Honestly in those situations I just stop responding. I leave it up to them. If they lose my attention, that's on them, and I won't accept being blamed for their inability to captivate me.

Just say your not interested in the thing their talking about. Just ignoring them is pretty damn rude

Keep asking questions until it gets to something you’re interested in. Talking to strangers is actually healthy because it trains your conversation skills.
Who says you have to keep interest into something you dont enjoy? There is a lot of situational context when it comes to portrayal of ones self. Do you enjoy the person not the conversations? That changes things. Are the topics ones you are strongly against or just plain boring? My problem is i enjoy too many topics.
i lowkey listen for an opportunity where i can just steamroll the conversation into a completely unrelated direction that the person cannot relate or contribute to, then tie it off there
