It's great to see that a complete Chinese translation has been developed after waking up - I was still struggling with some terms a while ago! Perhaps I should close my PR. |
|
This PR appears to be better suited as a draft, as the translation is not yet complete. Additionally, some translated terms deviate from the official Traditional Chinese version and established player conventions — for example: |
| Client:ClientCore:Dune2000=沙丘2000; Dune 2000 | ||
| Client:ClientCore:EnterAName=输入游戏名。; Please enter a name. | ||
| Client:ClientCore:MentalOmega=心灵终结; Mental Omega | ||
| Client:ClientCore:NameFirstIsDash=玩家名的第一个字符不能是破折号「-」。; The first character in the player name cannot be a hyphen ( - ). |
I agree with @XMxmx111 |

I seriously doubt whose translation theory/philosophy is used upwards. Original text correspondence oriented, or reader acceptance oriented. A ZH-Hans translation should respect it's main user group. A self-proclaimed "better, newer" translation if not accepted by it's targeted audiance is usually called self-satisfaction. As for the survey part. If you do want a survey about translation quality, it can be carried on. If again it falls to "whether this can represent" question, it would prove "self-satisfaction". Some modders here just don't want to speak directly about translation quality for manner traditions. So they bring up other "offtopic" things. I suggest them to speak it straight. And yes. |
|
Hello, RA2DIY admin here.
If it's not seniority then what is it that 'validates terminology'? I don't believe you are at a position that is representative for the majority of Chinese users, are you?
What should 'recent surveys' look like? I would like to see it, in case you have one. |
Exactly, based on your word, Nobody can be really representative for the all of Chinese users, We've repeated this many times Some of guys said "hey, We prefer to receive progressive suggestions" |
I noticed your comment essentially echoes what I’ve already stated that translation should either follow source text fidelity or user-centered readability while it's a good point tho, and that the latter usually matters more in practice. The key question remains: has RA2DIY ever conducted any recent survey or user study to validate that its translations truly reflect current player language habits? If so, when and how? Because from our perspective, what we’re proposing isn’t about being “self-proclaimed better” well it’s about aligning with evolving language norms. Languages change, user expectations change, and software must update accordingly. No software (or translation) can stay relevant by freezing in time. That’s why continuous delivery exists. Ironically, when people avoid talking about translation quality and instead shift focus to unrelated issues, it often suggests the original quality wasn’t strong enough to defend outright. We’re open to genuine data-backed discussion, but vague appeals to tradition don’t override the need for usability. At the end of the day, we just want clarity: are users comfortable with this translation because of genuine usability, or simply because they got used to what they were given? At present, the PR suggestions for vocabulary changes have been almost all modified. You are welcomed to locate the translation files and make suggestions for any words that are still unreasonable for further modification. |
|
We have decided that your arrogant prejudice will not be tolerated. It is not without a reason that those people have gained their seniority, and they deserve respectfulness. Your dull reply is, frankly, nonsense. I will comment on it with this line:
|
Thanks for your "kind" words. However, resorting to metaphorical taunts and vague hand gestures doesn’t strengthen your argument. It simply avoids the core discussion. Accusing others of "arrogant prejudice" without addressing the actual points raised is not a rational rebuttal, nor does it reflect the respectful tone you claim to value. Seniority does not exempt one from scrutiny, especially when community-facing content like translations are involved. Respect is earned through open dialogue and accountability, not assumed through vague authority.
We’re here to improve the project, not to play status games. If someone "has cards," as you metaphorically put it, let it be based on logic, data, and contribution — not attitude. This is an abuse of PR commentary when you're playing meme, and it's not the way to introduce your self as "Admin of DIY" |
Hey, look, dude, we have been living in China mainland for a couple of decades, and we have good understanding (if not knowledge) about what should sound 'natural' to 1.5 billion people. What you have suggested sounds very unnatural, so it will not be accepted. It's simple like that. |
|
@qyjoy |
You seem to be getting emotional, but I’ll stay on topic. So far, you have not provided any concrete suggestions or linguistic rationale, instead, you’ve repeatedly abused the PR comment system with off-topic taunts, vague gestures, and thinly veiled personal attacks. Regarding your earlier remark “It is not without a reason that those people have gained their seniority, and they deserve respectfulness” I honestly can’t tell if you were trying to justify your own position or speak for others. Either way, invoking seniority as a substitute for logic is not an argument. It’s a fallacy. Also, your mention of having lived in mainland China for decades is irrelevant. Language evolves. Being familiar with past usage does not automatically qualify one to override others' views on current naturalness, especially without any data or linguistic evidence. Frankly, your insistence sounds like the classic trap of “I’ve been around longer, therefore I must be right.” That’s not how open collaboration works. And lastly please stay rational. You do not need to deflect criticism with sarcasm or cryptic metaphors to cover up prior inappropriate and dismissive behavior. That only further proves the misuse of this space. Kindly remember that GitHub’s community guidelines apply to everyone, and what you’re doing fits the definition of abuse more than discussion. As we can see, you escalated the situation and even ignored the questions when we asked you about your translation experience, and you were really arrogant and aggressive. |
I suspect you might not fully grasp the true meaning behind your own words. If you did, you wouldn’t be abusing the PR comment section with sarcastic jabs, cryptic jokes, or personal attacks. Attacking a volunteer contributor especially when you claim to be an “Admin” is not only unfair but also ethically questionable. 🔴We are concerned and regretful about your sarcastic, hostile remarks and your apparent intention to escalate the situation.We are all here to discuss and improve the project. Meaningful dialogue requires respect and openness, not hostility. While others focus on constructive feedback, your tone and approach have been aggressive and disruptive, which only stalls progress instead of pushing it forward. Kindly note that there is no point for you and me to argue. You are full of hate speech. I believe that language was invented to promote friendly communication rather than deepen misunderstanding and conflict. 三思而后行 (Think twice before you act) |
So, do you think your action of suggesting bad translation is 'constructive' and is 'improving the project', despite our conclusion that your suggestion is totally unacceptable, but you refuse to make a change? |
Let's go back, I'm still curious about why you're so irritable, or what specific word or sentence irritates you. Could you point it out instead of making a personal attack? That's uncultured in 2025. Well... I'm simply curious about the language environment in which you were educated. Could it be that there’s a misunderstanding between us or perhaps a misinterpretation of certain English terms on your end? I'm genuinely puzzled why a normal question could be taken as something that made you angry. As someone who identifies as an “Admin,” you should also know that issues should not be handled emotionally. In case there's any misunderstanding from you, I'm willing to repeat it in Chinese for clarity if you want What I want to say is: there's really no need to argue over this it benefits no one. True strength/experience never comes from mocking others to elevate oneself. Are you perhaps very skilled at debating others? Though, to be honest, such things don’t belong here and shouldn't take over a collaborative space like this. btw There's no need for you to gather a bunch of sockpuppet accounts just to give your own comments a series of thumbs-ups or to show artificial support :) Again, refer: |

Why did you use a : in the YR Red-Resurrection translation when the original didn't have one, but use a - in the C&C: Reloaded translation even though the original did have a :?
I'm disappointed by this facade of peace. |
|
Amazing, so many new accounts registered within one hour and starred this project. And it's for non-constructive purposes. |
Pardon me? You are so stupid that I only want to communicate with you in English. |
From your language level, I think you can only teach me this. |
Enough to understand. boring |

@mysadge @RA2Super (I've seen your comments, you aren't getting out from this) are now blocked from CnCNet's GitHub organization for the reason of only exempting abusive behavior. Clearly joined just to dogpile and harass. Also a warning for @9980X and whoever else who is thinking of joining: you will suffer from the same fate or worse if you continue with the abuse. @qyjoy bold to talk about sockpuppet accounts when there's a horde of accounts who joined just to dogpile on participants of the conversation in your support. Also please stop mini-moderating with repeatedly pointing out the guidelines, you're not a moderator. P.S. @lhmouse @WhiteFeather127 I understand the people may behave annoyingly, but please, try to remain calm and constructive. |
I just think it's useless to say anything to you. |
Yes, I tried. I have lost patience. I will terminate the cooperation. |
Understandable. Next time please notify me. Such matters should be addressed by moderator intervention. |
Thank you. I have heard of this PR yesterday from Kenosis. After a quick glance (there's really hundreds of posts so couldn't read one by one, sorry) we had a discussion about the proficiency of this author and the conclusion was that they do not seem to be a skillful speaker of Chinese. I suggest the translation be taken over by some trusted users, especially because this PR is from some known person (people?) with distorted behavior. |
I've already addressed the fact that LH_Mouse went bit too far with the sarcastic comment and asked him not to do that. This is not comparable in any way to repeated abuse and hostility that proceeded in response, and such won't be tolerated. By the way, this is the second time the directed attacks happen on people who are disagreeing or criticising the translation or the authors. This is very far from making a good image and I am already considering not accepting this pull request purely because of those attacks and the behavior from the parties seemingly associated with the PR starter. |
|
I'm speaking as admin of RA2DIY. It's not my personal decision. It's a joint decision with @KenosisM and @DeathFishAtEase. I do not take the responsibility on my own: The proficiency and vocabulary of this author is so dubious that they do not fit this task. They are not representative for Chinese users, period. |
|
Because of the repeated attacks and misbehavior from the parties allegedly associated with the pull request creator, this pull request is locked until further notice. CnCNet staff will discuss what to do with the pull request and will announce that later. |
