Security Guard Arrested for Murder of Japanese Woman
Jakarta. Police have arrested a man for the alleged murder of a Japanese woman found dead in her South Jakarta apartment on Monday.
Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Mursalim, a security guard at Casa Grande apartments, where Yoshimi Nishimura, 28, lived.
Mursalim was arrested on Thursday after fleeing to his in his hometown in Lampung.
The Japanese national was the manager of general affairs and finance at Yamaha Motors in Indonesia.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Mohammad Iqbal said police identified Mursalim as the alleged murderer based on CCTV footage.
“It is very clear [in the CCTV footage] that the suspect came into [the apartment] with the victim,” Iqbal said on Thursday.
“We found several items belonging to the victim in the suspect's house in Ciracas [East Jakarta]. Based on these facts, we hunted him down and praise to God we arrested him today,” he added.
Nishimura's decomposing body was found on Monday morning in her 10th-floor apartment at the at the Casa Grande Tower Montreal apartment block on Jalan Casablanca in Tebet, South Jakarta.
Police earlier said the body was first discovered by Rohidin, Nishimura’s driver, her friend Kathrin Septy Brina Ilona and a building security guard named Heri Siswono.
Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of death pending an autopsy but noted that there was substantial bruising around the victim’s neck, consistent with strangulation.
