[Notice] Regarding the possibility of student information leakage due to a ransomware attack on Medica Publishing Co., Ltd.

On April 10th, we received notification from Medica Publishing Co., Ltd., the publisher of the electronic textbook system "Digital Nursing Graphica," which was used by our Faculty of Global Nursing until 2023, that "they suffered a ransomware attack on March 13th, 2026, and there is a possibility that user information has been leaked." At our university, 431 students who enrolled in Faculty of Global Nursing between 2019 and 2023 are affected, and Medica Publishing Co., Ltd. has sent an apology and explanation email to their registered email addresses. In addition, we have issued a warning to all affected students using our university's comprehensive learning system, el-Campus.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern caused to the affected students, alumni, and all other related parties.

We have strongly urged Medica Publishing Co., Ltd. to thoroughly investigate the cause and take measures to prevent recurrence. The investigation is still ongoing, but so far no secondary damage has been confirmed as a result of this incident. We will continue to closely monitor information from the company and provide careful support to our university-related users.

[Precautions to prevent secondary damage]
If the leaked information is misused, you may receive suspicious emails such as "phishing emails" and "spam emails" impersonating the company, our university, or education/medical/nursing personnel. If you receive an email you do not recognize, do not open it or click on any links in the body, and delete it immediately. We have also discovered that the registration information of some users related to our university includes addresses. Please be careful of direct mail and other postal items.

[Regarding the target digital textbook systems]
Faculty of Global Nursing Otemae University has been using two types of digital textbooks. This matter concerns those who purchased "Digital Nursing Graphica" from Medica Publishing Co., Ltd., who enrolled between 2019 and 2023.
Furthermore, students admitted in 2023 are using both "Digital Nursing Graphica" and "NTT EDX UniText." Students admitted from 2024 onwards are using only "NTT EDX UniText," and UniText is not affected by this issue, so please continue using it with confidence.
