Pardon me for opening my big, fat, cis-male, privileged mouth about the issue, but most of the arguments over gender nature and identity just make me laugh. As soon as you apply any science to conservative sentiments about gender, it all becomes pure insanity.

I had a front row seat to the phenomenon of religiously-motivated science ignorance growing up: I, a straight young man, with an older brother who happened to be gay, listening to my fundamental Baptist mother give him hell for being gay. Right away, I was baffled. So what? What was the big deal?

That’s a story for another day, though. In any case, I was raised religious, but I got better.

One of the biggest arguments I hear bigots giving to justify their bigotry against LGBTQ+ folk is that it’s “against nature.”

Against what now? Against nature? Are people of the Judeo-Christian persuasion convinced that nature, be it a creator’s works or accident of evolution, favors heterosexual binary reproduction and live birth?
