How to prevent “You’ve hit your limit” when working with Claude Code
Reaching the usage limit is by far one of the most annoying thing that happen when you work with Claude Code, especially when you need to get the job done as quickly as possible.
In this article, I will share 6 practical tips that will help you reduce the risk of hitting usage limits in Claude Code.
Two different types of limits in Claude Code
When chatting with Claude, you may encounter two different types of limits that work in different ways: usage limits and length limits.
Usage limits
They control how much you can interact with Claude over a specific time period (i.e, day).
Think of usage limits as your “conversation budget” that determines how many messages you can send to Claude, or how long you can work with Claude Code, before needing to wait for your limit to reset.
When you’ve used all your usage quota, you see a message like “You hit your limit,” and Claude Code will tell you when your usage limit will reset.
