Y'all if you’re American please email your politicians and senators against the parents decide act. I’m fucking begging because we’re reaching a tipping point.
Quick and easy link to both find your congressmen/women and giving you a quick and easy way to copy / paste the message into it. You want to oppose. It’s an act that will demand that all major OS makers integrate a direct forced age verification control into all OS.
I received a comment on this that I figured would be very helpful- it’s a template for communicating with your representatives. Be sure to use it for reference
Dear Representative [Name],
I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 8250 (The “Parents Decide Act”). As your constituent and a concerned citizen, I believe this bill introduces unprecedented risks to digital privacy and security.
Specifically, I am alarmed by:
SEC. 2(a)(1)(B): Requiring age verification to even use an operating system creates a mandatory “hardware lockout” that ends anonymous computing and forces users to hand over sensitive identification data to major corporations just to power on their devices.
SEC. 2(a)(3): Mandating that OS providers create a system for all app developers to access verification data is a massive security vulnerability. This effectively creates a centralized API of user identities accessible to thousands of third-party developers, many of whom may lack adequate data protection.
This bill does not protect children; it creates a centralized surveillance infrastructure at the OS level. I urge you to protect the privacy of your constituents and vote NO on H.R. 8250.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Your Zip Code]
This is a hell that us down under in Australia are already living in, and it’s not even effective at what it claims to do in protecting children.
Given that, in the wake of this mandatory identification policy, my country seems to be moving to hand over its citizens biometric data, like fingerprints, Face ID files, and identification documents, over to the USA and to ICE to maintain the visa free travel (ESTA) we have, I strongly urge any US resident to send these emails, or make calls.
But if you can’t do that, the most powerful thing you can do is spread the word. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, anyone who can help.
My reach will likely be small, and so I don’t know if this will mean very much in the grand scheme of things, but I cannot stand to see this tracking happen to another population as it did to mine.
And if you think it won’t affect you, it will. All anonymity goes out the window when your accounts can be linked via your personal ID
I wish you all luck in preventing this act from going through.
A fun artifact of living in such a white area, is seeing mostly white people accuse other mostly white people of white supremacy based on what they would imagine a non-white person thinks, when the actual majority opinion of non-white people is the “white supremacist” one.
“We need to advocate for our less educated, working class comrades via xyz!”
Ok, well, as someone with a HS diploma who works in food, I can tell you that nobody I know wants xyz.
“Well, if you only have a HS diploma, are you really qualified to have an opinion on this?”
From experience, I also have a feeling that this reading and discussion group is going to be at 10am on Tuesdays and meet at the most expensive cafe they can find.
A previous employer that had regular Equity Retreats (3 days of a local museum rented out, catered meals, paid speakers), and tons of Anti-Racism and Equity classes that were mandatory every 6 months. When I pointed out that there were still huge discrepancies in both pay scale for black employees and how often black employees were given pay reviews, and could we perhaps just… take care of that, I was told that “It may seem that way if you were viewing it simply, but the important part is to keep doing the work.”
I was under the impression that “the work” would be like… not having a lower pay scale for black employees, a thing fully within the control of the people in charge of these retreats, but apparently I only think that because I didn’t get an MA in Poetry and Urban Studies.
Nobody wants to talk about the popes have mortal life spans and are not bound to whatever the fuck their predecessors did with mussolini to create the vatican state. Like, Vatican II changed so much how the church approaches the modern world and some people are unhappy that A Catholicism is not their special trad cath B Catholicism and institutions are slowly moving away from medieval stuff so it cant be a monolithic big evil anymore

Answer:
Every supposedly progressive thing the church has done is basically PR for the worlds biggest pedophile support network.
Actually aside from church doctrine blessed are the peacemakers half the reason im pretty sure the pope is against bombing is because iran has a not small catholic population who he really doesnt want to get nuked

This is also a hilariously un-Catholic defense of the Catholic church. Like, when you have to defend the pope by saying that the office isn’t an unbroken line of holy authority straight from Peter…
(and I mean, obviously it isn’t, but still, that’s a heresy.)
I’ve hired a lot of felons and some have been amazing and some have been terrible. But basically at the same ratio as non-felon employees.
The one notable difference is that the two times I had to fire felons, they were actually like “Yeah, you gotta fire me for that. I get it. Thank you for the opportunity.”
Granted I’ve never had a criminal record or been fired, but I don’t see the issue here if they also agreed (?) Is this speaking to prejudice against felons for employment?
This wasn’t highlighting an issue or anything, just an observation.
Best executive function hack is just do a little bit of the big task. Big final presentation? Scary. Just gonna format the title slide a little? Not scary. Oops I accidentally did 3 more slides. Wasn’t scary.
