Cavetown spoke about the nature of his song on an AMA done on Reddit:

“i was driving in albany NY, in a rental car, on a wednesday. albany has some weird highways which loop around each other, and i came up to a "hill” on one where i couldn’t really see the road ahead of me til i passed over the top. i was in the far right lane going like 50 and as i came over the hill there was a state trooper pulling someone over on the shoulder to my right. the lane to my left was full and i had like 2 seconds to slow down before i passed them. i tried to slow down a bit but i saw the trooper look at me and shake his head as i passed and i was like uh oh…. drove for a bit and sure enough i got pulled over for going too fast past him. i was mostly hoping i pulled over correctly because it had never happened to me before !! he was cold and weird but let me go without a ticket. really uneventful story honestly but i struggled to keep it together on my way home. I was kicking myself for making a mistake !! learned tho" – Cavetown
