“I never knew it could look like this.”  The wonder in Scott’s voice was evident.

“You haven’t seen the best part yet.”

“How could it get better than this?”

“Just wait.” They rode to the top of a broken mountain as the sun rose lighting up the desert, making the arms of the saguaros sparkle. The fields of lupine and green spread out as far as they could see.

“I never knew the desert could look like this.”

Both admired the view remembering Scott’s disaster in the desert.

“How it looks is where you stand, brother.  The desert comes alive  after a rain. Lancer’s my home now, but this was my home for a lot of years.”

“Speaking of home, let’s get to it.  We have a lot of miles to cover and we have an army contract to deliver.”  After a moment he added, “Thanks brother.”

“Da nada.”
