KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles Eogene Ewe booked his spot in the third round of the Malaysia Super 100 after a tough three-game victory in Johor on Wednesday.

The world No. 90 upset Japan's world No. 83 Riki Takei 21-19, 10-21, 21-18 in the second round at the Educity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri.

Eogene, who won the Slovenia International Series and the Malaysia International Challenge this year, will face a tougher test on Thursday against top seed Jeon Hyeok Jin of South Korea, the world No. 35, for a place in the quarter-finals.

"I was well-prepared today and refused to give up in the deciding game. However, I still need to work on several areas of my game and get enough rest ahead of tomorrow's match," Eogene said.

"Hyeok Jin is ranked much higher, so it will definitely be a tough match. But I will give it my best."
