My Japan’s design :)

r/CountryHumans - My Japan’s design :)

I am Japanese and I always thought the cat thingy was weird so I gave em tanuki ears and tails instead. Tanuki is an insult spat towards untrustworthy people or liars in Japan. We don’t usually use this word but it’s very symbolic when is said towards a person. The clothes aren’t too accurate because I wanted the personification to be gender neutral but leaning towards feminine since Japan has a long history of female leader. The black teeth is a cultural thing for high position woman.. it’s also pretty creepy and I thought it was fitting. Even if I’m Japanese, I’m not an expert of my culture so please don’t judge too hard..

Love the design!

this is a gorgeous design holy shit🥹

never knew that tanuki was an insult, I always thought they were symbols of luck

They are! Tanuki in Japanese folklores are more like pixies. They like to transform themselves into a different appearance and trick people but they can also symbolize luck. It’s the same as how pixies are seen. Small tricksters but they can also grant wishes.. you get what I mean??

i knew they were shapeshifters but i hadn’t heard of the trickery thing or the fact that they could grant wishes

kinda makes me love tanukis even more🥹
