I didn't get the last run, I tried to get into it but it was mostly about Marvel's cops and them trying to stop The Punisher, he felt like a guest in his own series.
It's hard go too wrong with The Punisher. His various series from the 80's and 90's like The Punisher v2, War Journal, and War Zone were consistently good. Marvel Knights Punisher had some fun stories and the Garth Ennis around that time was full of great dark comedy like his run ins with the Gnuchi family.
The only Punisher comics I would say to avoid at all cost would be Punisher: Purgatory which was just plain stupid. Then when Garth Ennis left Punisher MAX the various writers after that went from readable to WTH were they thinking like one story had The Punisher in a swamp full of stereotypical hillbillies who are cannibals and he references Pokemon cards, because a Vietnam vet who's kids died in the 70's would totally know what Pokemon is. But Jason Arron came along and restored MAX to it's former glory. Also it's up to you, a lot of people hated it but I liked it, the arc called Frankencastle which involves all the monsters in the Marvel universe that nobody ever writes about and The Punisher as a Frankenstein's Monster has to defend them from hunters, in every issue the author had to explain to people writing in that if you want a gritty realistic story then read Punisher MAX. Other than that, I can't think of much that gets too much resentment from comic fans. There's just the occasional weird story like when The Punisher got surgery to become a black man and hung out with Luke Cage for a bit, I still don't know who thought that was a great idea.
