My grandmother died last week. She was 108.
She's protesting the Vietnam war in this first photo, taken in May '68.
She also protested both Iraq wars and was a labor activist. She lived through the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, two world wars, the Great Depression, the Harding, Hoover, Nixon, Regan, and both Bush administrations.
She'd been grappling with dementia for several years but understood COVID-19 and called it "the slingshot". She was always (especially recently) concerned about where America was headed politically.
She desperately wanted to make the world a better place and tried her hardest. I will miss her horribly.
