A few months ago I was working on a mobile app feature with a designer.

Nothing unusual. Figma open. Slack notifications exploding. Product manager asking for “just a small change” that will obviously take three days.

The designer shared a screen with me.

But instead of manually creating variations of a UI component, they typed a prompt into an AI design tool.

Ten layout variations appeared instantly.

Then they said something interesting

Let’s test which one users actually understand faster.

That moment stuck with me.

Not because AI generated layouts.

But because the designer knew how to work with AI instead of competing with it.

That is the difference between designers who will thrive in the next few years, and those who slowly become irrelevant.
